Question HDD making odd noise when waking from sleep

I have 2 HDDs and I suspect one of my HDDs are causing issues. When I wake my PC from sleep it causes one of my drives (where my OS is installed on) to make an odd noise, sounds like a race car, and my screen turns black. It never returns to a normal state and requires me to restart my PC.

This happens occasionally as well as when my computer screen turns off, with no active use, it begins to spin at full RPM but only for a few seconds then stops.

I've used WD's data lifeguard utility and my drives appear to have no issues.

My specs: i7-2600k, 16GB of ram, and RX 580 with Windows 10 64bit.

HDDs either spin at full RPM, or they don't spin. They don't change RPM. (*)

If you are hearing RPM changes, then that's a fan, either CPU, GPU, or chassis fan.

(*) Technically, they change RPM when going from 0 RPM to full RPM, or vice-versa. But they don't have variable RPM running modes.

I'm with larry on this one that's an odd way to describe an HDD noise. Sounds like a better descrip of a dvd drive.

Do yourself a favor and get an SSD for the OS drive, it's one of the most noticeable upgrades you can do.

Or they're HGST drives with Coolspin. Some of the 5400 RPM drives could idle at 4500 RPM.

One of them is a Hitachi drive before WD purchased them.

I know it's not a fan because I disabled them and the noise still persists.
