HdHomeRun and Kodi

Hopefully someone can help me out here. I'm running a custom build of 17.4 on my Nvidia Shield. I run PIA VPN in the background of the shield. Recently I learned how to bypass certain apps for the VPN through the settings. Originally HDhomerun did not work if VPN was on and now it does through the main app on the shield. If I go to it within Kodi however, it loads and can't find devices on the network, most likely since I haven't allowed Kodi to pass through the VPN ( don't want to either) My question is: What do I have to configure to get it to work inside of Kodi with the VPN active? I'd like to get everything set up to start recording soon and this is my first hurdle.

I'll pass on offering advice about your problem, since I still need to get more acquainted with VPN. I think it's integral to using mobile devices to access desktops remotely, and even something I should really set up on my server for certain features. My excuse -- I'm old and I'm slow.

Before I take any more of anybody's time with your thread, I came into this forum to post my own question that has a similar symptom -- unable to find HDHR devices among other similar indications. I think I should post a separate thread, though. But if I watch this thread as well, I might learn something.

Coming back to this after more than three weeks.

I had assumed that you knew how to use HD HomeRun with KODI. You would navigate through the KODI menus to "Add-Ons" and find the comprehensive list of Add-ons available. There should be an HD Homerun item you can download. Download and install it.

Then use it to raise the channel lineup from your cable TV provider, and you SHOULD be watching TV through KODI and HDHR' in no time at all.
