HDMI Cables

My parents just bought a new Sony HDTV for their house and they got an HDMI cable box. Can anyone recommend some cables? They aren't really picky so just some advice on some decent cables will suffice. The guy at Sears was telling them to buy Monster cables, and obviously that isn't going to happen.

Monoprice sells a generic brand with different gauges. The lower AWG, the thicker the cable, and better the shielding from interference. High AWG if your source is close to the monitor. You can always get the lower AWG if you're anal about stuff.

HDMI is one cable where I can't see spending a penny more than what's necessary, since it's a pure digital signal. I am willing to spring for decent speaker cable and a nice component cable between my cable box and TV (I got mine from bluejeancables.com), but for the digital signals (including HDMI and optical or coaxial audio) I see no point.

If they don't want to wait to have them shipped, Target carries GE branded cables that seem to work just fine. I think they're around $35-$40. Not as cheap as ordering online, but a lot better than the $100+ that places like CC want.

Is there an actual quality difference between the $17.99 at cablesforless.com, 20.31 at monoprice.com, 69.99 at Target, and 124.99 at Circuit City HDMI cables?
If so -can anyone elaborate on what the difference is? Or if not, then why the astronomical price differences?

There's definitely a difference in the materials used to make them, but it's not a difference that will have any palpable effect on the signal quality. It's done for marketing reasons, and the overwhelming majority of the price difference is pure profit to the manufacturers and sellers.
