Howdy all,

I have an Apple 30" HD Cinema Display. 2560x1600 resolution with a DVI connector.

I also have the Razer Blade laptop which only has HDMI-out. The specification for the HDMI should support that resolution. So, as I understood it -- I just need a dual-link DVI capable adapter. So, I purchased the following adapter:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&view=all&item=230616175315&tid=899938767013&ssPageName=ADME:X:CPSFRPB:US:1123

When I hit WinKey + P and tell it to use "projector only" I cannot get the resolution over 1280x800. So, is it the adapter? Or is there something else I am missing?

Thank you all ~ !

what is the exact model of your laptop?

the HDMI port might be >1.3(which supports that resolution), but does the GPU allow such output?

eg: this Asus Zenbook U500VZ has a HDMI 1.4 port, but can only output up to 1080p

http://zenbook.asus.com/zenbook/ (click on U500VZ, then Specifications)

also, your ebay link doesn't work

Thanks for your quick reply paperwastage!

The exact model is hard for me to say, as I don't know what they're called. But it's the Razer Blade Pro, with a 256GB SSD and a just one of the USB ports has 3.0 capability (green colored). According to Razer, in an e-mail to them, they responded:

The Blade and its GTX660M can output that resolution, if you use an HDMI 1.4a cable. It would all depend on the adapter, HDMI-to-DVI can create a disruption an only output 1080p resolution.

Sorry about the non-working link, here's a working link:

I'd like to avoid having to buy a whole new monitor for this, as I really like this older 30" Cinema Display.

Thank you

according to this, you need a monitor that supports HDMI 1.4a, not DL-DVI

or a HDMI 1.4-> DVI-DL active adapter (can't find any)... HDMI is only pin-compatible with DVI-Single Link, not dual-link

Well this is depressing. So I need a new monitor?

yeah... or hunt for a HDMI 1.4 -> DVI-DL active adapter? maybe there's a demand for that, can find a chinese manufacturer who will make one

or buy a new laptop

you should still be able to get 1080p/1200p out of the adapter you currently have

Doesn't look like it -- I've searched all over. No such thing seems to exist. I'll just have to buy a new monitor, unfortunately.

im not sure you can convert HDMI to DL-DVi at that rez

you either need a Display Port out which can be converted with an active adapter or a monitor that will take a 1600p HDMI singal (there arent many)

everyone who jumped on the Catleap bandwagon (cheap SK IPS monitors running 1440p) quickly discovered the need for video cards with DL-DVI outs or 100$ Active adapters

I don't know anything about Catleap.

But, the Apple 30" Cinema Display is an old monitor. It came out in 2005 or so, and thus, has DVI only. It predates DisplayPort, so that is of little use. Clearly, what is needed is simply an HDMI-to-Dual-Link-DVI active adapter.

No such thing seems to exist. I'd love to be wrong, but I can't find one. 2560x1600 is the magical resolution.
