HDMI out problem

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H motherboard - which of course has the Radeon 4200 integrated graphics. I'm trying to get it to output to my TV via HDMI, but whenever I do, my TV gives me this error: "Unsupported audio signal. Check your device output." and then switches to "Unsupported signal. Check your device output." My TV is a Sony KDF-37H1000, and it supports a 720p HD signal. As soon as I plug the cable in, the picture on my monitor goes away, but the sound keeps coming out of my PC speakers. I checked the TV user manual, so I know that I'm setting the correct output resolution for it to work.

I can't even find the most basic guide for this type of thing. Should I try unplugging my monitor from the DVI port? Should I be booting up with the HDMI cable plugged in and ONLY that cable plugged in? Are there some common settings in my software that might fix this issue?

When I look around, it's as if it just works for everyone else. Please help!

Check the motherboard Manuel and make sure it supports audio out threw the HDMI cable. There are many on board chips that don't support it as well as some cards that don't support it. It sounds like the TV knows enough to look for audio from the port and when it doesn't see it, it reports a problem.

I know for sure that this motherboard supports audio through HDMI. I actually got the TV working now (I reset the computer with the TV plugged in... made all the difference), but the audio still doesn't go through the TV.

For anyone in the future with a similar problem, I solved it by installing the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture driver from the motherboard manufacturer.
