HDR Games on PS4?

So now that there is an HDR update for the PS4, where is the use for it? Are there any HDR games yet and if not, what will the first ones be? I know a couple developers have said that they expected to do HDR on the Pro model but since the update extended HDR to every PS4 they weren't prepared for it. I'm surprised Sony didn't have something ready immediately but maybe I just missed it.

Anyone have any ideas what the first game(s) will be and what time frame?

Seems like November at the earliest for HDR support, and that is all patched in

I saw that article and others like it but they talked about that game The Witness and I read about 2k patching it into nba2k17 as well. I did expect something to be available though. I'll keep an eye out I guess.

I hope HDR doesn't do to console gaming what bloom/hdr did to PC gaming. I can't stand all that post-processing.

I'm no expert, but I don't think the HDR rendering made famous in the Lost Cost Half-Life map, is the same as the HDR technology that TVs are using.

You may be right. However, as someone who uses HDR in photography and other media I have yet to come across a different form of it. All that varies from application to application is how dramatic the effect is. I guess we won't know until the first HDR enabled games are released.

hdr is a process that uses metadata to define luminance levels for the display. The result is a wider range of contrast for a given scene. The shadows retain more detail without turning black and spectral highlights are brighter while not washing out the surroundings. It also brings with it an expanded color gamut taking us from 16million to 1billion colors. The end result is something much closer to how you view real life every day in terms of colors, detail in the shadows etc.

I have been watching hdr content on my tv for about a year now and it is totally different from what was previously labeled hdr in games and photography. It's not a post process technique. There is metadata sent over the hdmi cable to the display.
