Wow, beautiful picture! I work down the street from that shot, at Union Memorial. It's funny...we call that lawn the "beach" because we so many of JHU student laying out there once the weather's warmer!

Sorry I can't comment on the technical aspects of your picture, just wanted to comment that I think, from a viewer's perspective, that is very well done!

Try Photomatix, it's waaaaay better for HDR than Photoshop is.

Sky could use a little more pop, even given the time you shot it. But then you'd need to crop a bit off the top or you'd have too much pop. Did you use a filter? If so, which one? Also the picture seems to lean to the left. It's pretty slight, but I noticed it.

This isn't a great HDR shot for one really important reason. At susnset you aren't going to have the available range you would have during the day.

Crop some of the sky off the top. Reduce the flare from the lights. You also have some sharpness problems with the sky.

Try this same shot during the day with a nice natural lighting.

I like the first one, but dislike the 2nd.

You don't need HDR for that shot. The histogram shows that most of the brightness values fall in the left half. HDR is best used when the range between the highlights and the shadows is too great, meaning that you are losing detail somewhere.

I used Photomatix's blend feature to create this image:

If you look at the histogram of that, you will notice that there are values spread over the entire 0-255 range - the range of the scene was too great for a single exposure

BTW Twitch22, thats the Upper Quad, which has since been "renamed" to the Keyser Quad. The Beach is the lawn on the east side of the library.

Easy fix. Will do later. I was trying to get the HDR aspect of the pictures right first, and then worry about little things like cropping and rotating.
