After going through MANY different antennas, including the OP. I've found THIS one and I LOVE IT!

If you are getting a free $40.00 Digital Receiver and are deciding to build one the coat hanger antenna then I suggest getting a Balun Transformer (VHF/UHF transformer) from http://www.summitsource.com/ for 39 cents + S&H. S&H is about 8 dollars from summit source if you live on the west coast. Summit source does take the 40 dollar coupons and offers digital receivers.

Radio Shack sells these balun transformers for 5 dollars. So 8 dollars for shipping for a balun transformer and a Free Digital Receiver is great.

High Def forum also has suggestions for Over the Air (OTA) reception and which Antennas to purchase and one of them is NOT to buy a Radio Shack Antenna. There are better brands and better Makes.

Free is always better...well it's always cheaper anyways.

OTA HDTV is great. As long as you have at least a 60% signal, it'll play great, and look fine. No snow on digital.

I tried one out in NYC (Manhattan) in an apartment on the 4th floor out of 12. It did not fair well, but I also don't have any windows facing the Empire State Building.

I went through a few antennas at radioshack, and none of them worked well. Then I found that with a piece of wood, a few coat hangers, screws and washers, and a transformer for coaxial connection to the antenna, you can build a DAMN good antenna. It only costs about $5 for the connector. Everything else you'll probably have lying around. I got a piece of wood at Home Depot for $3 or so. I'm never going back there though...I waited in checkout for 20 minutes for them to price the wood.

Aiming the antenna can be an issue, but that'd be an issue with any HDTV antenna.

I don't mean to dump on the deal though!!! It seems like a nice deal.
