From DigiTimes.com

The matrix is about half-way down the linked page.

If any of this info is a yawner for you, please be advised that I am just coming to grips with the HDTV issues and am as yet, a novice.
Hopefully, the novice standing will gradually change as the pre (or post) holiday season emerges.

The digitimes article also addresses some of my lack of HDTV information as well as giving hope to the (hopefully brutal) price slashing looming on the horizon.
Admittedly, this is not "a hot deal" per se; however, knowledge of upcoming events that may lead to great savings and becoming informed is surely qualification for a post here.

Personally, I am waiting for the 2006 generation of Panasonic plasma's to come out. They are supposed to be better (that's a given) than this years models, and the prices are supposed to be much, much lower. Waiting does kind of suck though.

It's kinda ironic that people still think Sony is a top dog in TV.
Sony has been in #3-5 range in digital TV domain.
Sony used to use Taiwanese flat panels and people are still paying
premium dollars to get Sony.
Sony recently made a deal with Samsung to use their flat panels
and produces even more expensive digital TV.

Sony still makes good products but I would think twice before
I pay more for Sony than others...

I have purchased multiple Sony products in my life and only
real success with Sony brand name is the color TV that we bought
more than 20 years ago... Maybe Walkman was also good.
Sony's analog products are really good but Sony's digital products
for general cosumers are actually 1 tier below some Korean or
Taiwanese manufactuerer and some people still pay premium...

I am currently planning on buying a 30' ish LCD HDTV, and all the Sonys I've looked are much more orange in colors. Especially skin tones. However, the Sonys seem to have smoother transitions between colors. I was not impressed with the 27' Viewsonic on sale at CompUSA at all. I must say I give the nod to Samsung.

I think what's interesting in the article is the following and what is implied...
Sharp has already reacted to Sony?s encroachment by rolling out a series of sweeping price cuts on its Aquos LCD TV line. The new pricing structure will go into effect on November 1.
This almost guarantees that the Aquos' prices are headed lower.
The 32" Sharp is listed as $1800 in the October average price. After Nov. 1 maybe $1200?
After the holidays, $800???

Several years ago I paid $1000 for a 32" JVC CRT (which, BTW has been flawless).

When i bought my hdtv some few years back (dumbest thing i've ever done ... so far) sony (and other brands) was using hitachi guns in their rptvs, especially in what they rated hdtv ready or hdtv. The last sony product i purchased was a ps2. ;-)

Avsforum.com is the place to find real HDTV answers.

As for timing, spring and summer are the times for AV, nobody is buying when its nice outside and time for vacation, now through the end of the year people go insane buying big screen stuff to cocoon for the winter and watch sports. Jan 6th is the Consumer electronics show where most of the new stuff is shown to dealers, but much of it isn't available to sell for months, some not even til the next year. Oh, big thing about the CES is that its often the "offical" debut of products, so its the date magazines have to agree to not publish new product information before, hence joe public doesn't know whats in the showroom is last years model yet. A month later Joe start knowing and the old stuff won't sell for the same price.

2006 is supposed to be the big year of digital broadcasting, but lots of stuff lag like crazy behind the first wave, "blank" ready sets that never have matching boxes at a price anybody would want to pay. Expect most of the bargains to be from the bottom of the features, things like analog input displays, non hdmi, basically old technology.

Don't mind me though, I want a front projector and think the other stuff is nuts.

A projector is definitely in my mix...
Thanks for the Avsforum.com tip. You're sure it isn't a Colorado Avalanche forum?

I was thinking the same thing, but then I figured that if I kept on waiting I might never get one. So about a month ago, I picked up a Panasonic 42" plasma and am enjoying every single second I spend watching it.

Now I'm too broke to buy anything else. I still want to get a Dell 1905FP or 2005FPW and a new GPU and a bunch of new games, but they'll have to wait.
