So, I'm on a mission to make a muffin (or a cupcake, same thing). But it's gotta be the size of a person's head. So, pretty damned big. And I have no idea how this can be done. Any suggestions? Any girlfriends or wives have ideas?

you can do it with a large enough pan, just make cupcakes from the receipe and then use the whoel batch for one, you will have to bake it at a lower temp for much longer but it shoudl work fine

i do basocally teh same thing and make Pizza sized choc chip cookies

Is the cupcake going to have icing?

Maybe try using a angel food cake tin for the body and another round cake as the top, then cover seams and top in icing.

if it's OK that it have a hole in the middle, just make an overstuffed cake in an angelfood cake (tube) pan.. if you plug the hole in the top of the tube with.. something.. maybe a bit of greased foil-covered cardboard.. then it might rise up overtop and fill in and you can pretend the hole isn't there, from above?

if ya frosted it like a cupcake, you could take care of that hole even easier..

Well, a few months ago, my boyfriend said to me one night, in an attempt to get me to go to sleep, "if you go to sleep now, I'll give you a cupcake the size of your head!" And I was like, you promise??? He promised. So... it's months later, and he claims that it's impossible to do.

Now, why would I ever let go of such a neat promise... it's not every day that you hear people say they'll make you baked goods the size of your head. So I'm trying to see if it's actually doable, in hopes of getting him to finally give me my glorious reward

You won't be able to do it because you won't be able to center it in the oven (for even heat) without hitting one of the six walls.

Haha I've never seen anyone bake a cake all at once without splitting it up into layers (aside from angelfood) but if you know how, then you're the winnter

Like jfall mentioned earlier, would the thing get really gross texture-wise if you tried to bake it in such a big batch?

Oh and I like the idea about making that hollow angelfood one and hiding it with frosting haha. I considered it a while back, but I somehow got sidetracked into the mindset that making a whole bunch of small cupcakes and then somehow piecing them together would be a good idea too.

Who cares though? Isn't the point more to actually MAKE the thing, rather than it having to be perfect??

Well... I kinda want to eat part of it, just to complete the experience... so it'd be nice if it wasn't chewy or something.

One piece would be ideal, but I'd settle for a composite as long as it was easy. Do you mean like making flat layers and then putting them on top of one another?

you can make all kinds of cakes in a tube cake pan.. like pound cakes, they're baked all in one piece.. I make pumpkin cake this time of year and it bakes in a bundt-type pan, it could go in an angelfood pan and look more cupcake-like just as easily.. I haven't ever tried to make a from a box cake in all one piece but.. I don't have much experience with cake from a mix at all.. I expect you could probably do it. they tend to bake for about an hour at 325-350.. test 'em with a toothpick halfway between the side and the tube part to make sure it's done, should be OK..

pound cake would be tasty, though.. and sure to work.
