these are not it.

These are endorsed by FunBoy, when they are endorsed by head-fi.. I'll listen.

Buying name brand doesnt always mean they are the best. Having grown up poor and learned the value of a dollar I have bought many no name brands that were better then any of my friends name brand crap.
I dont go by what other people have written or if they are name brand. I go by what it cost me and what I am getting out of it and for that reason I felt I had to make the OP about them because they had exceeded my thoughts on a no name set of headphones that other people may want to get.

And considering all the reviews on the no name set all come back with what I have said which is they really do sound great $20 is a steal.

Tell you what, one of you with the big bank roll and must have name brand or nothing who has dissed these buy them and give them a shot. If you cant come back here and eat you words that for $20 this isnt a bad set I will buy them off you for $20 shipped. One person through PM and you have to listen to them with thoughts that you paid $20 what in the same range would sound as good, not that they sound no where near my $$$$ set because that was not the reason for me putting this up in hot deals. I agree a $50+ set may sound as good or better but I have a set of big headphones that I paid $75 for in my closet made by Panasonic that were reviewed as being the best and compaired to these they will be staying in the closet.

So there. I have come in here and said I have listened to many other sets of headphones and I can legit say what I have been saying. You havent even heard them and because they are not name brand or cost an arm and a leg have or had some mag tell you they are the best come in and right off say they are crap. I have given my thoughs and someone else here and dug up some reviews from some no name people also saying they are good so prove me and the reviewer wrong .

And if I am wrong then I get another set to give to my wife who wants one after listening to the headphones that she has had and now cant listen to them any more and has been stealing mine.

Bottom line, headphone preference is a matter of personal choice. Plenty of people just love a series by Sony that I can't stand, and plenty of people gripe about bass on Sennheiser headphones that I think are the best around.

Share some earwax with other people and try out different brands and models.

Some kind of little booster amp improves almost any headphone.

Watch the volume level, hearing loss isn't fun, and dangerous sound levels may not be even noticed at the time. Take the phone off periodically and see if your hearing seems muffled, or you have any kind of ringing, if so chances are good you did permanent damage.

Well put.

A good thing you said that. I was about to plunk twenty bucks doiwn on the Headbangers. But then I saw these, so I'm going to take out a second mortgage. I wouldn't want to destroy my hearing. As we all know, $20 headphones will destroy your hearing, but $3000 headphones are totally safe. Turn them up as loud as you can take it, and it is 100% safe. How much is your hearing worth? Once cheap headphones destroy your hearing, you'll be glad to pay any price. So just get the three thousand buck pair in the first place.

Just in case some one doesn't get it (and there is always one) the above is sarcasm.

funboy42: Your problem is you put this in the topic heading: "The best headphone you will ever own.." and people are taking you literally. (They are missing the dot dot dot to "For $20") If you changed it to "Close to the best headphone you will ever own..." you wouldn't get the extraneous golden ear commentary. OTOH, you are getting loads of free bumps the way it is, so if you can take the heat, maybe it is just as well to leave it.

Here is the problem with high quality equipment and loudness. Low priced equipment starts distorting at a comparatively low level. That is what people are most familair with. Therefore most people identify that distorted sound characteristic as loudness. High quality equipment stays clear at much higher volumes. It doesn't "sound" loud. It sounds more ultra clear or "etched" as the volume goes up. People love this, of course. It is a known psycho-acoustic phenomenon. Within a short time, the hearing system just adjusts and "tunes out" volume as such. It is hard to know how loud something is after you have listened for a while. But at some level it is dangerous to your hearing.

Headphones, even cheap ones, can in fact be driven to much higher sound levels without distortion than speakers which are much more expensive.

Extended, clean bass is by far the most expensive characteristic to build into a speaker system. It is the most noticeable thing you start to get as you move up from the bargain basement, and probably the most appreciated thing by the average ear. It makes sense to pitch a product to this huge segment of the public. It is very hard to tell whether a speaker is exceptionally neutral throughout its range, but is dramatically evident if it may be missing bass. For speaker systems, sub-woofers with active filtering have brought down the cost of extended bass dramatically over the years. I'm surprised the headphone makers have not exploited it too well, considering how manufacturers like Logitech have made such a splash.

It is very believable to me that Headbangers could give as good an impression as much more expensive headphones. And I do love the sound of my $175 Logitech computer speakers. Of course you can tell the difference if you've ever sunk bucks into a hi fi system, like I once did ages ago; but it is not all that drastic as the price differential.

I've still got some Koss ESP 9 electrostatic headphones somewhere in a drawer. Koss also made 10's and 11's. (and 12"s?) They were around before the STAX electrostatics, as I recall, and were quite a sensation at the time, the frequency response was so flat and extended. So why don't I use them? They developed an intermittent popping noise after many years. But really, considering what I care to listen to, other headphones are more than sufficient for the task.

The only B&M store I found these was at Fry's. They stock less than 5 at a time (I think). Obviously I cleaned them out... taking orders from friends and family members.

Thanks for the post Funboy!! This goes down as my best 'HOT DEAL' discovery in a long while.

Just got these over the weekend after seeing this topic and these are great headphones. Much better than any of the Sony's I ever had. I have to admit the only gripe I have is the somewhat bulky amp but besides that, these headphones are worth more than the ~$20 I paid for them.
thanks for the heads up on these guys.

Hello all,

I just bought a pair at Walmart. I hope they are good as everyone hypes them up to be, or I will be PISSED!

These speakers sound great. The light hiss is not distracting. For $20 (incl. shipping at overstock.coma), these are a real deal. I find them to be very comfortable too.

I just got mine today and damn they are nice! they are also very comfy. the battery pack is annoying but i will deal with it for the HUGE improvement. As for bass these spank the E4's as for clarity they are not E4's but not very far off. considering the E4's retail for 160-300 these 20 el cheapos are nice and i think i will order a spare set!

A lot more than that Headbanger POS headphones.

Of course, my headphones cost more than most people's computers.

Be on the lookout of Koss Porta Pro headphones too. Great headphones if you can get one for under $30.

hmm..I wander what you have let's see my ave comp cost $1500....there are only so few headphone in that range....so which one do you have? I am guessing AT or sony.

I don't think they make them anymore, maybe japanese distribution only.

stax is not the best. different maybe. please also do not forget AT, Grado, Beyer, and Sony. each brand deserves a serious listen.

I think he was meaning that they sound really good and was saying as far as sound quality goes they are very close to the E4's. And I see you are coming to the E4's defense by asking was his E4 amped like the Headbangers to be able to sound as good when the E4's cost ALOT more and the $20 set is spanking it in price almost being just as good in sound.

But amped or not he proved my point and why I am so "giddy" about a $20 set because your going to get kick ass sound quality you would expect from a $100+ set for a lousy $20

And thanks for the bumps keep them coming

These rock, there's nothing I can say about them that hasn't already been said. I own some Phillips over the ear cans, and a pair of Grado sr80's. The Phillips are great (don't remember the model #) and I can honestly say the overall sound of these Headbangers is very good. The incredible bass makes up for the lackings. I might even put them over the Grado's. If price is a factor nothing touches the Headbangers. If you believe your ears are on the level of a Dog, then by all means buy some thousand dollar cans that need an amp to sound right.

If you want good headphones, buy a good set of grados or at least anything with 'monitor' in the model name (thus denoting suitable for studio use).

Also, am I the only one that read the article about earbuds giving people eardrum damage? Edit: I see Kato posted a link...

I wouldn't say the jack up the bass, they just do a better job at reproducing it. The highs and mids they produce don't touch my Grado's, but for 20 bucks they are solid as hell. playing games with them is a blast. I don't need audiophile quality sound to enjoy a game, but decent mids with killer bass makes it much more enjoyable.

Why argue matters of taste, some people love dog food and complain that steak isn't covered in its own gravy.

I have concern that these may be loud enough to damage hearing, but have no opinion on the quality since I haven't heard them or read any reasonable review (with frequency response, distortion level, and output level).

Go to www.ebuyer.com and search for 199473
Hmm. I must have done a google search for ebuyer before which pulled up their UK site. Same company in the UK & US.
Anyway, when I put in my state (TN), it shows tax. Did yours? Website says only tax for AZ.
