This one.

Will be good enough to continue playing for years, even after your skills have developed.

Remember to negotiate the cost down a bit, or to have them throw in a hard case and some strings with the purchase. If you're just starting out, some thinner strings will be easier to play at first.

Cheap piece of shit from Yamaha, Epiphone, or Fender in case you get tired of it and throw it in a corner.

That's beautiful, not a purchase I'll be making tonight though

Would it be worth it to look for a used one

I bought a near mint Fender for like $120. I love it.
Just buy whatever used model you like and can afford.

Absolutely, nothing wrong with a used guitar that's been taken care of. The Seagull recommendation was made based off my purchase a few years ago after a similar post on these forums. It just plays smooth and sounds great.

Overall I'd try to steer you towards a solid top guitar. If you have any interest in sticking to playing, you'll outgrow a laminate guitar pretty quickly.

Look for a used Yamaha on Craigslist. This brand is top quality/price ratio.

Lots of failed wannabees sell their guitars on Craigs at huge discounts to get rid of the space due to mom, GF or wife. They're usually in mint condition when you wipe away the dust.

The reknowned Seagull S6 previously mentioned is a very nice guitar but people that sell the "usual famous suspects" want to sell it at near the price they shelled out, just like Gibson.

Get a $100-$200 guitar with Spruce top off Craigs and if you fail to grab the fever after a year, like 90% of noobs (according to Fender), then you can resell it at near the price you bought it for.

Buy used and be a smart guitar hero or be a chump and buy new at Guitar City then sell it at HUGE discount on June 29, 2017.

None of them are shit companies, but they do make very cheap, beginner guitars.

Even the beginner guitars from most of them aren't what I'd ever call shit. They aren't First Act.

Also, OP, check out a local pawn shop. They generally have instruments for cheap prices.

I bought my daughter a Seagull Entourage Rustic QI. It's a real beauty. QI is the electric pickup and not needed, but the cost was negligible so I opted to go for it.

Yes you did.

You're an asshole.

That reminds me of someone in college. Group work, a girl told someone she'd go "get his shit." Other guy took it literally because English wasn't his first language and told me how shocked he was.

P.S. I sure am.

Yamaha is a good brand if you are buying used, there are some under-valued brands too but with used guitars it is always good to have a 'player' check it out with you.

Vantage comes to mind as a really solid guitar you can buy for probably less than $100.

OP hasn't really told us anything other than he wants a guitar. OP, are you going acoustic or electric?

Not a bad suggestion, but definitely the higher end of the price range for a complete newbie. I have a Seagull that I take with me on the road. Nice quality and good sound, easy to play, retails in the $500 range currently iirc.

You can get a playable Yamaha or Taylor in the $200 range that would probably be good enough for OP to see if this is something he or she wants to spend time on.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about the recent Yamaha FG700 & 800 series, but if you can get an S6 around the same price, that's a good way to go too.

i just dont want to spend half hour typing.. but acoustic + cheap + beginner do not mix.

if anything, buy a classic (nylon strings) to learn on. or an electric.
