I'm looking to relocate but my current company isn't being very helpful with the transfer and jerked me around for a few months now. I might be in the market for a new job.

Anyone know of a good headhunting firm in NYC that specializes in Accounting? I have 3 years of Big 4 experience and currently based in Chicago, in audit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Here's two that I would recommend. I normally hate going through headhunter agencies, but I obtained my current work from the first person. As far as I know, they both have recruiting contracts with very large organizations.

Howie West at United Staffing Systems. 212-743-0347
Vickie Mamary at Integral Resources. 212-599-0295

Not sure if they remember me, but tell them Rashid says hi.

Avoid headhunters with extreme prejudice.

They only get in the way, waste of value/money, and give a fvck about you....unless you're a sr. exec.

The high flying friends I have get jobs the old fashioned way....networking and sending your resume to people that matter (i.e. HR is a start but email/mail/phone execs DIRECTLY).

i wouldnt use a headhunter in your situation.

with 3 years of big 4 experience, you should have no problem getting a job at any accounting firm (big 4 or smaller) or even going to the industry side.

just have to do it the old fashioned way.

Being in the Big 4, it's surprising how almost everyone leaves the firm through headhunters. A staff that works under me just got a new accounting position at a financing company with a 20% increase in her compensation through, yup, a headhunter.

Headhunters, good ones, can really get things done quickly and what is what I need now.... no time to spend on HR, who have no decision making power at all.

You're right about that. I work in HR myself and although I recommend sending resumes the old fashioned way, I do believe if a headhunter really likes you then you have a good chance of getting the job. One thing that people don't realize is that most of the major firms (whether it be accounting, law, or any corp hq) these days are associated with headhunters and pay a big deal of money to these headhunters to get people with a nice amount of experience.

But yes, I do hate going through them. Most of them make you empty promises "oh yes I believe we know the perfect employer looking for you", but if you go through one that's highly reputable and you know how to negotiate with them (yes, they will try to lowball you so that they can get paid more from the employer) then it's very worth it.

good luck man! pm me if you have any questions.

Not understanding why you don't like headhunters..

My wife just got a job as an assistant controller for a very good company last week, thanks to headhunters..

Within a week, she had 3 interviews and 3 job offers.

One she turned down was for a controller position, she didn't think she was ready.

Not bad for a girl that just graduated from College in 2003..

Both of my last two jobs were from headhunters. As long as you get a good one they really help out.

My old boss from a few jobs ago recommended a great HH in Manhattan for investment professionals. The guy usually handles higher-up IB/hedgies, but he made an exception for me. He sent me on 4 interviews, finally landing at my current job. I'd definitely go back to him.

You just have to realize their job and the type of person they are.
