You don't even need a headphone jack to use wired headphones as there are a plethora of dongles and adaptors you can use to plug into a lightning or USBC port.
Why make things unnecessarily complicated and have more opportunities for failure?

I don’t think a small dongle is complicated or likely to fail anymore so than the headphones themselves.

I’d like to think anyone posting on here would be proficient enough to use a dongle... although sometimes I have my doubt.

Or have the dongle built into the phone!

And a small dongle is absolutely more likely to fail, or get lost, than no dongle at all. In fact it's infinitely more likely to fail than no dongle at all.

It seems silly to have a dongle built into the phone taking so much space for only a small subset of users that want it though. Phones should be built for the many, not the few.

Oh no, please don't say this. The Knowlegable People will have your head on a platter.

I’m not trying to be sarcastic in any way, I’m just perplexed how some people seem to find it so incredibly difficult to work around not having a 3.5mm jack in the phone.

Humans have a great ability to adapt to new things. It seems that some really struggle with this though.

Why should I need to work around not having something that was taken away rather than it not being taken away? Surely phones should be for the many not the few?

Because that’s the way the market is going so you either adapt or you don’t.

So not for the many then? Adapt or die? That sort of thing?

Well luckily the biggest Android manufacturer is still including it. I'm just glad I chose choice, it's easier than being told what to do by the people I'm paying money to.

Yeah adapt or die is the saying.

I think everyone chooses choice.

Thanks but I don't like being treated like that when I'm buying things, you feel free to though!

I think some people will clearly put up with whatever is given to them and justify it later.

I never see adapt or die as a bad thing because change is fun and exciting. I understand some people really struggle with change though, and that’s fine.

Maybe you are right some people will put up with whatever and then justify it later. The number of people I hear justifying how great it is that Google hoovers up all of their data to build advertising profiles is testamount to that.

You hear excuses like:

But I’ve got nothing to hide

Or

But they provide such great services

Or

It’s too difficult to move everything away from Google.

Google have these people by the balls.

You didn't adapt. You could ALWAYS use BT headphones and you can now with any phone that has a jack as well.

All you did was accept a compromise. You had no choice in the matter.

Now that's fine that you accepted less and compromised, just stop trying to pretend anyone else thinks that's 'brave' or some bold move. "Hey look, I can do what EVERYONE ELSE CAN TOO but I LACK a choice that they have as well!"

There's nothing brave or even the least bit interesting about it. That people feel they have to chime in (in a snooty way) on a discussion about something they are lacking also kind of speaks volumes to me that they KNOW it was a compromise and are just trying to compensate.

If it were a discussion about sunroofs in cars, and I'm happy with my car that doesn't have one, WHY ON EARTH would I feel compelled to jump into a thread where people are discussing their sunroofs and wank on about how great my lack of one is?

That'd be silly, and it'd reek of me just trying to justify my NOT having something others have and enjoy.

There's nothing brave or even the least bit interesting about it. That people that simply lack a choice that others have feel they have to chime in on a discussion about something they are lacking also kind of speaks volumes to me that they KNOW it was a compromise and are just trying to compensate.

I think you need to re-read the original post and understand that this thread isn’t just for people who want a 3.5mm jack.

Of course I could always use Bluetooth, and I have since January 2016. But that simply means I don’t care whether a phone has a 3.5mm jack or not. And as I don’t care, it means I’m not going to discount phones that don’t have a headphone jack. And as more and more people don’t care about the 3.5mm jack, more and more phones will come without one, until one day there are no phones with a 3.5mm jack. And then, you’ll have to adapt.

Or you could just adapt now, and get on with your life.

Now you need to actually try and COMPREHEND what I said.

No one cares you accepted a compromise. You didn't ADAPT to anything, you did what a big company demanded you do.

There's nothing at all special about that. Sorry if you thought it was.

Companies like Samsung tried to remove SD storage as well- and got handed a big face slap full of NO THANK YOU for it. Thankfully not all consumers are sheeple.

Who demanded I bought Bluetooth headphones?

I seem to recall it was my own decision!

I typed up a well thought out reply, but deleted it all. Since you are not up to speed on the quality of audio a newer cell phone can output, I'll just let it go seeing as how this discussion went off the rails anyway.

Explain to me how you are getting anything close to top performance from your audiophile grade headphones without external DACs and amps and lossless audio files. Cause when people generally say they play music from their phone they are using Pandora or other streaming which sounds just as bad on my sennheiser HD580s as it does on the Apple earbuds and my sennheisers aren’t even cream of the crop when it comes to headphones.

Relax, WelshBloke already shot down your 'logic' about how your lack of a choice is somehow better than other's actual choice.

Most people realize being a good consumer is not blindly accepting whatever companies want just because its profitable. We'd still have 3" screen phones with garbage stats, no apps, barely a few steps above flip phones if everyone were just a blind robot. The industry is pushed because of people that demand more.

Enjoy your wireless charging, larger screen, waterproofing, lack of bezels, etc. (All things you probably once screeched you didn't want because Apple didn't have them!)

You're welcome.

So a removable dongle (another stress point) is ok but wires are impossible to deal with.

Yes. You were not forced to buy Bt hp. You always had a choice between Bt hp and no headphones.

No, you made that up. Your imagination is not an ironclad argument.

This is funny because you're basically telling us you can't tell a difference between earbuds and a pair of fairly decent headphones...

... and I'm supposed to accept your word as carrying any weight in a discussion about audio?

MY KID could tell a decent pair of headphones sounds better than earbuds. The fact you MADE UP a crappy source doesn't change that.

I’m not entirely sure that wanting a 3.5mm jack can be considered ‘wanting more’.

Wires aren’t impossible to deal with they are just highly undesirable in a pair of headphones. And given the choice to not have to deal with them, I will make that choice.

This whole thread is retarded. I have no idea why anyone would argue a feature that costs a fraction of a percent of the sales tax on a device shouldn't exist. If it weren't for the size, I'd be fine with a floppy drive on the phone. Just because it's there doesn't mean I have to use it. I can still use my sd card, or the internal memory, or whatever. The people that want a floppy drive can use it.
