I last used a headphone jack in January 2016. That’s when I bought my beats studio wireless and I’ve never needed a headphone jack since. My car has been Bluetooth since 2015.

I still value the headphone jack, and I'm glad Samsung and LG have at least decided to stick with headphone jacks in their flagships. This is just a pure marketing exercise from these companies - if you believe they removed it for technical reasons (or space), you are just plain wrong. They just want you to buy wireless headphones.

Fun fact: The iPod Touch 5G/6G are both 6.1 mm thin, and have a headphone jack. The iPhone 7/8/Xs/Xs Max/Xr are all thicker, and don't have the jack.

Lol my comments were mostly in response to the implication that my audio chops were beneath others because I lower myself to prefer bluetooth. I don't give a rip what you listen to, but snarky begets snarky.

So here in 2018 we cant just cut the cord and enjoy untethered Bluetooth? The only time I ever need a hp jack is to use next radio, which uses the phones for an antenna, and I still listen on BT. The technology is so cheap, not sure what the big deal is.

No doubt people will tell me...

Your first response in this thread was definitely the start of "snarky". Before your post, the only thing that was being discussed was battery size and dongles. Nobody mentioned anything about sound quality at all.

If Bluetooth is good enough for you, great. Audio is not a "one size fits all" type thing.

My first response was my opinion about convience v "fidelity". For that I got from @Oyeve "Us knowledgeable people ', which I can only assume meant that I am not sufficiently knowlegable to participate in this discussion, like that person knows ANYTHING about me and what I know or don't know. And my response was to that person's condescension toward my post, in which I clearly stated that I expected to be "educated" on the subject. So you, @Zaap became the sarcastic one, and apparently can't take what you dish out. You have your opinions, and I will defend your right to express them, but snarky will get called out when you lay it me.

My apologies to @Zaap, was @UsandThem that was dissing me in their last post, and it is to him /them that my comments were directed. Clearly I should try to bow out of this discussion as gracefully as possible, because pissing matches are a waste if time, mostly mine. Peace.

"Dissing you"? Really?

Because I disagreed with what you posted claiming you were put down by others, and that's the reason you became "snarky" in the first place?

Think whatever you want. People should be able to express their opinions in tech without others overreacting to different opinions.

Methinks he be confused. I know I am. I'm more confused that "Dissing" is still a word that is used.

I just don't even know if you're being serious at this point.

1. You come into the thread and set things off with your first post.
2. You then claim people are looking down on you because of Bluetooth audio, and that makes you "snarky".
3. You say I "dissed" you.
4. Now you say you never said that (even though you tagged me in the post ).

I've got better things to go back and forth with you on this. I'm done here, and a simple thread about headphone jacks on cell phones turned into this mess. Really just unbelievable.

Until BT audio gets much better I'll buy a phone with a jack for headphones.

Audio from any phone isn't good enough to even make the statement that "Bluetooth audio is of poor quality compared to wired". People with $400 headphones and using their phone for their audio needs are idiots plain and simple.

I typed up a well thought out reply, but deleted it all. Since you are not up to speed on the quality of audio a newer cell phone can output, I'll just let it go seeing as how this discussion went off the rails anyway.

The jack was removed for two reasons. I know this because God told me, so there's really no debating this bit.

Reason 1. Design

Reason 2. Money

Apple lives on their design and they've come - through necessity - too close to the Samsung design, so they NEED something that shows that Apple is at the forefront of design.

Most buyers will either believe that Bt hp are better, or that "i dont know if they are better or worse, but we're given a chance to try and possibly, own a successful, pioneering technology".

I can totally understand WHY that reasoning exists, and frankly i dont blame people who adapt that reasoning.

But, there is a difference between me (who has spent his life buried in audio cables) and a typical Apple customer.

To me, substituting the jack with Bt hp is like substituting a wired mouse for a wireless one; no practical benefit, and inferior performance across the board.
Sinclair tried to "update" transport with the C5 when the "new" electrical engine was far inferior to a ICE, and he lost everything. Nowadays, Tesla does the same and it's successful beyond expectations because the technology has finally caught up. There even exist wireless mice which rival wired mice, but this is not the case for headphones.

"I use this technology and i have this advantage"

Ok thats just dumb. ANY tech you use has advantages; fat people are harder to kidnap. Bt hp dont have wires. And .. you know; they are easier to lose. To break. They run out of power. They lose connection. They sound like garbage.

But the worst thing, the WORST thing about Bluetooth earphones (and this brings us to my point n.2) is that they are tied to an Apple product.

Let's make it absolutely clear that the reason these were approved is because the vast majority of consumers will wind up buying APPLE BRANDED BT EARBUDS instead of some cheap $15 buds off of Amazon.

Im sure you ... you are a successful millennial person who is so busy that they need modern tech that Just Works(tm) but if for some reason you want to STOP BEING AN IDIOT (makes sure before you do that this is allowed by your Apple ToS) the first step is to stop thinking "omg Apple is so cool".

The tech is cool. The actual science in your tech is cool.
If Western Digital beings out a new laser-based hard disk, it's the laser that is cool, NOT Western Digital.
Apple doesnt care about you. Samsung doesnt care about you. Microsoft, Virgin, Kentucky Fried Chicken don't care about you. Being cool is something they do not do to be cool, but to sell you stuff, through manipulating you. If YOUR reasoning and the reasoning off of a multinational's marketing literature match up, you're having your money stolen.

The practical benefit is that you don’t have any wires. Trying to run or workout in the gym with wires bouncing around all over the place is a real PITA that Bluetooth solves. That alone is worth not needing/having a headphone jack.

Wear your phone/player on an armband. Route cable behind head. You know, like everyone.
We know this solution completely eliminates the problem, while still giving you earphones that cost less, are more robust, do not require power, are less prone to breakages and misplacement, do not lose connection, and have superior sound quality, with the added bonus of not being Apple.

But, you know, everyone is different.

Seriously ...lets say you have a problem with wires.
This is a non-problem for the rest of humanity, including many apple customers, but for YOU, this solves a unique problem, idk maybe you are horribly misshapen. Could be.

Why does the jack need to be removed?

Samsung phones have Bluetooth AND a jack. You can go out today and buy a cool new Note and use your Bt hp in the gym and still have better battery, a jack, and the earphones you so need.

Undisputably better technology m8. I say you go and buy a Samsung right now.

We’ll buy wired ones then, no one is stopping you...
I have. And that's why I buy phones with headphone jacks.

But I can also use Bluetooth with that phone if I need to.

And that's why having the option of using the headphone jack is always superior to not having that option.
