Eerie Canal
(traditional)
I've got a mule her name is Sal
Fifteen miles on the Eerie Canal
She's a good old worker, a good old pal
Fifteen Miles on the Eerie Canal
We've hauled some barges in our day
Flled with lumber, coal, and hay
We know every inch of the way
From Albany to Buffalo

Low bridge, everybody down
Low bridge, we're coming to a town
You always know your neighbor, You always know your pal
If you ever navigated the Eerie Canal

I've got a mule her name is Sal
Fifteen miles on the Eerie Canal
She's a good old worker, a good old pal
Fifteen Miles on the Eerie Canal
I eat meat now
I eat mule now
Mules is meat now
Mule is Sal!

I think closed headphones provide you a better listening experience for your money than in-ear.

See: Sennheiser.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 497's, great over-the-ear phones for an awesome price. Sound quality is great, but if i had a bigger budget I would probably get a nicer pair of closed ear Sennheisers if you plan on watching movies or are the audiophile type.

If you're not worried about portablility, then you should most definitely go with overear closed headphones.

It'd be nice if you told us what kind of headphones you currently have.

I recommend you get in on the HD280 for $60 deal found in Hot Deals forum...you'll love the isolation and the nice bass- very suitable for a 'dorm' environment.

aiwa hp-cn6 noise cancelling headphones. they have zero padding on the headband area, and just arent that comfortable, got them for my bday a year ago never really liked them.

im looking at the grado, or senns, headroom is out of the senns 495's are out of stock.

This is what I was going to suggest as well.

over ear.

in ear is a pain in the ass on long haul listening sessions. just good for mobility.

Bingo. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 265s that I use at the computer. Over the ear closed cans are great for bass response (at least these) and comfort. I just received some Shure e3cs for Christmas and they are also great sounding, however they can't touch the bass on the closed cans. But, they work well with the iPod and should be quite suitable for use around campus (I'd never walk around with the Sennheisers on - they're like earmuffs.

in ear will sound far better than similarly priced closed headphones. however, a lot of people have comfort issues with them. the canal phones tend to be *less* source/amp dependent than the closed ear counterparts at similar $$$ but its still very important.

most people would much rather have closed headphones because they isolate a lot less and are easy to remove/put on. canalphones sound really good, isolate much better, hurt for many people and are inconvenient. they are a lot more portable though.

it all depends what you need them for and what your price limit is.

Over ear headphones all the way. I'd look into Grado SR60s, Sennheiser HD497s, or Sony MDR-V6s (note: not 600s). You can find the first 2 for anywhere between $40 and $60, and the Sonys for $100. Ooh and that deal on the Sennheiser 280s is looking sweet too.

I think I like earbuds better, however I would get both if I had the money easily, as there will be times I want over ear and in ear.

Then for jogging, I'd probably want to use my $20 Sony Headphones =0þ

they're generally considered to be uncomfortable, though, and that's his beef with his current pair.

I have senn 477s and I think they're very comfortable. They get a little warm in the winter, but cushy and sound great. I recommend if you can't find 497s.

I also managed to snatch up some mx300 earbuds too tho at the same time. They're cheap and sound better than bundled earbuds, but as posted earlier, buds get uncomfortable. Also, earbuds have shorter cords than most headphones and might get tugged around.

If you want padding on the top, you cant go Grado unfortunately as there is no padding. Grados sound nice, but are known to be uncomfortable. If you dont want to spend too much money, yet want great sounding earphones, I whole-heartedly recommend the Koss PortaPros. Ive been using these and the Grado SR125s for over a year now, and both sound great. Obviously the Grado sounds better, but the Koss is much more confortable for me.

Look at Beyer Dynamic headphones for comfort and awesome sound.
