Hey can you guys reccomend me some good headphones? I'd like it if the things that go on the ears are cushioned. Bass doesn't matter much since i'll be using this only during the night so I can still play without waking anyone up. But the more bass the better. I don't mind if there is no microphone but I prefer for there to be a microphone. I'd like it to hae decent sound quaility (will be hooked up to Audigy 2 ZS). My budget is 50$ but if it's worth it I can pay a little more.

I was nearly pulling my hair out trying to determine the right headphones to purchase. It seemed like everyone had different opinions of what was the best set of headphones. I researched and researched and came up with this... Go to a place that has headphones on display, listen to them, ALL of them! Buy the ones that sound the best to YOU. Don't even look at the brand. It doesn't matter. Buy what sounds best to YOU. Reasearching this topic will only make things harder for you.

if its just 50 bucks on head phones, it doesnt even really matter what you get. maybe if its over $100, then that might take some research. but i would just get whatever looks good if i were you.

I have a pair of $20 sonys that have been great to me for years, they sound fine to me and they aren't earbuds. Then again, I'm no audiophile.

Senheiser HD-497's; I have their little brother, the 477's, and they're wonderful.

The Grados can't be beat on a budget IMO. They do have a couple of downfalls though:

-they are uncomfortable
-their open design allows sound to escape and bother others

They are unmatched in terms of sound quality at this pricepoint though. They match my $150 Bose Triports.

And to some they're fugly as heck. Unless you dig that WW2 radio operator look.

EDIT: On the plus side, the Grados are the best phones for rock.

Get Sennheiser HD 570 headphones. I think they retail for like $150 but you can get them on ebay pretty cheap. I think I saw them in the Hot Deals forum for like $80 at one store. They're super-comfortable and sound great, and you don't need a headphone amp to drive them. I have them hooked up to my Audigy2 ZS. You can wear them for hours and hours and not get a headache because they're so light and comfortable (even tho they look big).

For the price, you can't beat these Labtec's. I think that they have very good sound, and for $5, you can have a set for every device you own that has a 3.5mm jack.
No idea on the little radio that comes with it - it's probably worth every penny of the $0 it costs.

at $70, you're within range of a few great phones.

Grado sr-60s of course, the sennheiser 497s, and sony V6s.

The grados are often the least comfortable and least durable. I switched to the senns which are built to last or at least be repaired easily. the sonys are heavier and sealed, but harder to drive.

i went with the senns which are available online for $60.
