Headset Recommendations Q4 2016

My second pair of Plantronics GameCom headphones broke on me last week; I want to go with something else because they weren't that old. I had a similar issue with the 777 and the plastic cracking with minimal to normal use, but I thought the 780 would be better (it wasn't).

Anyway, I don't really have a ton of time for online gaming nowadays so I don't necessarily need a mic. I would like as high quality as possible though while staying under or around $200.

Reviews for new headsets are all over the place, and I've already looked at a bunch of Logi, SteelSeries, Corsair, and HyperX sets. Wireless is cool but I don't really need it; 3.5mm or USB doesn't matter. Just need some really clean-sounding around-the-ear cup style headphones or headset.

Any suggestions?

These. Beryllium drivers at this price point are rare. Ultra-light, efficient, and distortion free with some tuneable base. Way better than "gaming" headsets. If you need a mic later just get a modmic.

Seems like most of the "high-end" gaming sets are all about the gimmicky marketing and unnecessary features/customization versus comfort and build quality.

Ended up with the RBH after another couple of days shopping.

They are impressive for sure, though I am still a little worried about build quality when it comes to stretching them over my fat squash. They sound absolutely excellent though so I'll make sure to handle them carefully. In my defense I always do that but the cheaper plastic sets usually end up breaking anyway.

Glad they seem to be working out for you! I think Audioholics had a similar problem with the headband being set for someone with a smaller noggin. They bent out the metal guides a little if I recall correctly. It's in their review I think.
