I want to use a virtual reality headset for nothing more than to watch TV late at night, so I do not disturb my wife. Both my Blu-Ray DVD player and the Comcast STB have TV HDMI outputs, and I already have the equipment available to send the TV HDMI signal wirelessly across the room to the side of the bed. I do not use a gaming console, so I know very little about the associated standards/connectors etc. However, it appears from my research, most virtual reality headsets use either a Display Port or HDMI connector but neither conforms with the video standards associated with TV/DVR/etc. HDMI (I am also not certain I am correct about this). The two headsets I found accepting a standard TV type HDMI signal do not appear to be of an acceptable quality. So, how do I convert a TV HDMI output to be compatible with a gaming console input that all decent headsets apparently want to see? All my searching finds plenty on going the other way (Gaming to TV HDMI), but nothing to go from TV HDMI to Gaming. Any solution would be appreciated.
All I want is a good/high quality headset for watching TV in an already dark room without disturbing someone sleeping next to me. It will never be used with a game console. If I am going to do this, I want to get a headset of reasonably good quality in terms of construction, reliability, and of course, comfort. Again, I would appreciate any suggestions.
Also, I very strongly prefer a headset that does not require registration to use it or iPhone software.

I just found that headsets (e.g. Meta Quest) have a USB input. It appears a simple TV HDMI to USB C adapter will allow them to use a standard TV HDMI signal. Is this correct? Also, can it be used from the start without an internet connection if not using it to play games?
