Health risks of cigars?

I have a friend that claims smoking 1 cigar a day, inhaling every once and awhile, will have no effect on your health, or rather nothing close to the effects of cigarettes. I don't mind smoking a cigar every once and awhile, so is it pretty harmful if I do so, or no? (I'm talking like cherry cigarillos btw, no stogies lol)

Not daily, I'd say. Smoking one once in a while shouldn't be too bad. I smoke one maybe once a month for celebratory reasons (if I just aced a midterm, etc etc.), haven't had any ill-effects thus far.

Tobacco smoke is a carcinogen regardless of where it goes. Instead of lung cancer one will just get mouth cancer. That being said, humans are pretty resilient creatures and life is all about moderation so occasional cigar smoking shouldn't be too bad. However if one was to smoke a few cigars a day because one thought that since the smoke wasn't inhhaled it wasn't harmful, one would be wrong.
I happen to enjoy a nice cigar myself now and again.

This would be correct. Carcinogen exposure is all about duration, amount and frequency. We are exposed to carcinogens all the time. Most of the time we are not exposed often enough and at high enough levels to cause cellular damage.

Having an occational cigar CAN cause a nicotine addiction, though. Which, in turn, would make you smoke more than an occational cigar. So while the occational cigar is not all that dangerous to your health, the addiction it can lead to IS dangerous to your health.

Don't get the wrong impression - it's not healthy. You might get mouth or throat cancer.
But it's not all that likely...

Someone needs to do an actual study on the effects of occaisional cigar/pipe smokers. I know very few people that smoke more than once a day, and most smoke usually less than that. A study showing that people who smoke 10 cigars a day are in worse health than pack-a-day cigarette smokers is meaningless.
