*sigh*... fast food for $8.

If that is too much, you could always drink gasoline. You should be able to get over 70 thousand calories of gasoline for that price (regional). The best part is that you will never have to satiate hunger again.

Probably not healthy, but filling, yes.

To the Subway responses: I have traveled to hundreds of podunk midwestern towns for work, and became somewhat of a Subway connoisseur. First off, they are not that great compared to lots of fast food options. I am pretty sure their business model is to be better than McDonalds and that works for them. The next time you are driving interstates through the middle of nowhere, duly note the blue signs that only have Subway and McD's listed as food, franchising gas stations was pretty smart.

They are inconsistent as all get out depending on the franchise manager. I have been to one that the "sandwich artist" put a few slivers of green pepper on my sub when I asked for them. This was on a veggie delight sub, so when I rightfully complained, she told me (quietly) that it was because the manager was in the back and was very strict about toppings. I did not want to press the issue and was on my way. ($3 if you PM me the race of the manager, first 3 correct applicants)

Ever since that encounter, I have tried tried to chat up my "sandwich artist" here and there to get an idea of what their manager is like. I think I might as well look for good local places, but don't have a smart phone and they are rarely just off the interstate, because franchised Subways are run just as erratically, with a much better chance of good food.

I would never buy Subway when I am near local/familiar areas, and know there is better food around.

I really don't see how the Subway Club is healthier than say a Chipotle chicken burrito bowl with brown rice (as long as you don't do anything crazy with the add ons)

If anything the Chipotle meat seems less processed. Both are equally loaded with sodium (but really, eating out means high sodium in general)

Ok that particular option at Chipotle isn't so bad but it's still worse than a 6-inch Subway Club. Based on the nutritional information on the respective companies' websites:

Subway Club:
- 304 calories
- 4.4g fat (2.0 saturated)
- 0.8mg salt

Chipotle Chicken Burrito Bowl with Brown Rice:
- 350 calories
- 10.5g fat (3.0 saturated)
- 512mg salt (!!)

The one big advantage that the Chipotle has, however, is that it contains only 1g (i.e., nearly no) sugar, whereas the Club contains nearly 7g due (mainly) to the sauce

Err, no way is that right that salted deli meats use barely ten grains of salt. The UK site posts sodium amounts in whole grams. That's really 800mg.

But don't you actually want to eat food that tastes good? Chipotle just doesn't fit that category.

I'd say Chipotle. I do a black bean bowl with brown rice, tomatoes, lettuce, and guac. I don't think it gets any "healthier" than that for fast food.

lol foodsnobs.

Lightly drizzled is not a big helping. If your local Subway is slathering it on, I would tell them to stop.

I ask for BBQ half the time. Considering that most people are getting much more sugar from even bread when you look at volume, about a teaspoon of sugar or a little more in a meal doesn't bother me for the amount of flavor it adds.

It's still drizzling corn syrup on your vegetables. There are very few BBQ sauces nowadays that use tomato paste as the primary ingredient rather than corn syrup, and I doubt the Subway is using them. Mustard is healthier and better tasting.

I use to eat Subway almost everyday until this one lady started making sandwiches there. I'm pretty sure she does meth.

I like the burrito bowls, whether at Chipotle or even Taco Bell... just gotta avoid getting sour cream, guacamole, and cheese.

usually I just get rice, black beans, veggies, chicken, and salsa.

I also really like Wendy's chili (healthy if you don't have sodium issues). if I have to get something at McD's or BK for whatever reason, I'll usually just go with a grilled chicken sandwich (no mayo) and ditch the bun.

I'm probably not the best person to give health advice but isn't guacamole a good fat?

thre is nothing healthy about chipotle and panera.

for healthy, I usually hit the local deli and do one of their create-a-sandwhiches. get some nice chips or fruit and a bottle of water.

The most filling for me is "Bulldogs grill" In wauconda. They use good ground sirloin & round. They have a burger called a "Double D" which is good and filling. It has 2 9oz patties, 6 strips of bacon, and some cheese. It is awesome. I eat one of those, and then on the side I get a large order of their Hillbilly fries. Essentially it's a pound of fries with about a half pound of chilli and cheese and onions.

I do not know how healthy it is, but, it has the bonus of being REAL meat and not being filled with fake ingredients/trans fats. Also, it is the most filling. It is more filling than getting 4 big macs or 4 mcdoubles or two of the half pounders. And, since theres only 1 bun instead of 2 or 4 buns, you aren't wasting calories on carbs.

idk, I'd feel better having veggies, rice, and chicken at chipotle than a sub roll with processed cold cuts and cheese.

a chopped salad from subway.

the bread adds unnecessary filler junk that you don't really need.

How is a "create-a-sandwhich(sic)" healthier than a chicken salad with black beans, vegetables, guacamole and cheese?

Ya got me.

Also el oh el at Burnitdown's suggestion of a giant burger with a side of heart stopping grease spiked with diced potato in it.

Chipotle and panera are pretty damn healthy if you order right at them...
