Just started playing and I'm going through the practice rounds. Can someone tell me if this is a bug?

I had a card with Taunt out in the field, and the CPU played Ironforge Rifleman which has Battlecry: Deal 1 damage -- which bypassed my guy with taunt and killed my 8/1 Berserker (who I had been building up). Kind of annoying because I thought he wouldn't be attacked with the taunt out there.

Wow this game is all about randomness than actually skill for sure. lol

20 game losses in a row, then 5 wins in a row. I've went from winning by one hit to dying in one move with full health. I've had a hand with all +1 minion damage, no minions. lol

It truly is. Ive had games where all my card draw is 6+ to start with. Then not getting cards to play till turn 4 or 5. Just lots of RNG from draw, let alone the RNG from things like tink or ysera.

And it seems like most decks are either end it by turn 6 or 7 or go for the late game. So its either you have to win fast, or you just have to hold on.

As for the losing streaks or what not...ive watch a legendary go on a 13 game losing streak mostly from the RNG then go on to win 10 or so in a row with the exact same deck.

But i gave the game a try. Its just not for me. Its a good game though

I think taunt only affects melee damage. Anything considered 'range' can ignore the taunt effect. This includes the mage class ability, direct damage spells, and the battlecry from minions like elven ranger and fire elemental.

I guess that applies to stealth as well? Because I had a thing with stealth out and they could attack it with "special" abilities. Would be nice if they were clear about this.

Eh, its not all that hard to understand. There are attacks, spells, and abilities. Attacks are when one player specifically chooses to use the default attack of one of their minions (or their hero, if they have a weapon). Spells are cards that say 'Spell' along the bottom of them when you mouseover. Abilities include hero abilities, and generally any other effect in the game, such as battlecry's. There are a few other 'effects' in the game that aren't really covered by these three, but keeping the above distinctions in mind should clear up most of your confusion.

Now, if you look at the description of taunt in game, it says:

"Enemies must attack minions that have taunt."

In other words, it affects only attacks. Spells and abilities are not affected.

The in game description for stealth:

"Can't be attacked or targeted until it deals damage."

So with stealth, not only can you not be hit by default attacks, but a stealth minion can't be targeted at all while it remains in stealth. It could, however, be hit by a spell or ability that does not require targeting, aka any AOE ability (such as flamestrike).

Things can become a bit murky when you start looking at how things work when you combine multiple minion characteristics, spells, abilities, and some of the unique effects into one interaction. But again, keep in mind the difference between an attack, a spell, and an ability, and carefully read the descriptions, and you should be able to figure it out 90% of the time.

Damn i'm having a hard time getting past Rank 17.I have the cards, probably not the skills to get further...or is it just bad draws?

When I start the game with some nice cards that can either combo already or are just great I win but if my initial hand is composed or Rag, Ysera and one other 5+ card, I tend to lose cause I can't put anything on the board and can't wipe anything.

It's been a long time since a game got me frustrated that much lol...

One of the reasons I actually like the arcane explosion spell as a mage. You have any +spell minion out and drop an explosion and you'll kill most stealth mobs as the majority have at most 2 health.

If you're having problems early game, adjust your mana curve accordingly (add more low cost minions / abilities and remove the bigger ones). You don't need a ton of 5+ cost cards.

But, generally speaking, yes a bad initial draw can make for a poor game. You have to rely on top decking stuff that can keep your opponent from taking over.

I effing hate stealthed mobs! Dammit I hate them!
I never seem to have any Consecration when they come out...

But yesterday I tried something new with my Paladin deck. I added 2 Equality, a Sylvanas and a Wild Pyromancer and removed Blessing of Kings, The 2-mana dude that gives Divine Shield and another card I can't recall.

Equality + Consecration = Good night! Great combo to wipe a board full of anoying stuff!
Or one of my new favorite combo out there!

Summon Wild Pyromancer - Cast Equality - Board cleared!

There's so much stuff I don't use that I should! It's my inexperience talking when it comes to card games but some cards look meh but end up being awesome!

Few examples of cards that I thought were bad but are not:

- Tinkmaster Overspark
- Sylvannas
- Wild Pyromancer

Sylvannas is so good. That is the first legendary I would say to get in any deck. It is a good card AND has a great utility on death.

Gotcha, thanks.

I am horrible at this. 0-6 in the arena, ugh.

I suck at the Arena too, i'm currently 1-7 and everytime I get in I end up with a shitty deck filled with mediocreness...

That is in part because you don't understand the values of each card yet. Do a bit of research and you should be able to put together an average deck no problem.

Perhaps my prior TGC experience helped me in Arena (for years I've only done MtG drafts), I've yet to have worse than a 3-3 arena performance.

I think my mana curve is ok. I been working on this a lot and the curve follows with the crecendo of the game.

It's just when you don't have the tools you need in your hand that I'm struggling. I know good players always find a way to diminish the effects of bad hands with what they have but for now it's my weak point.

It'll probably get better the more I play and I optimise my deck a bit more.

Last half a dozen or so goes I've stuffed my deck mostly with best cards of 2-4 mana cost. Have managed to go at least 5-3 each time pretty consistently.

oh no, it was actually a rather tragic 3-3 run. RNG absolutely destroyed me. On two of my losses I had 1 legendary in the initial draw, tossed it along with some other cards and got the other 2 legendaries in return. In the third I tossed a 4-4-5 and got back 5-5-4, and then 2 of my next 3 cards were legendaries. When the draw RNG wasn't lubing me up the deck was destroying people.

At least on one of my runs last night I got milhouse.

think I wanna cry, was just at 9-2 with a pally using mana wrath and 2 knife juglers early on in most games. came across another pally that pulled 2 sword of justice early and I couldn't draw a single damn card to help with board clear and got mowed over. such a good run, about 5 of my wins had me at 28-30 health when it ended.

See, this is exactly what I felt. Add this with the way blizzard promoted the game made me avoid it entirely. My friends who did play said its magic dumbed-down and I can't even handle magic because of how RNG-based the game is by default. Add in them selling me stuff during the beta in the actual invite and it just sounded like something I should avoid.

What's a good mana curve? I tend to go heavy on the light cards since even if you drawn them late, you can just play multiple. Only thing I lack is a good way to pull more cards into my hand.

So. I was doing good. Suddenly getting my ass kicked.

Now I have like all the classes leveled up to around 10 except warlock...havent tried it yet.

That might be screwing me since match making based on combined level? That sorta sucks but I get it.

Should I be focusing on one class?

I seem to like the Mage and Rogue so far but having said that I find Druids amazingly annoying and Priests seem op at times.

LOL this game is crazy. I don't know if its fun or just funny to play. I just with 8-0 in arena as a mage. The cards that deal damage to all minions? Yah i got like 4 of those sometimes in a deck. lol
I won one also i had a Murlock with 4 cars +1/+1 attached to it. The other play did not care he was determined to just kill main guy. lol
