If you're new, you get matched up against other new players I'm sure. I played the free Arena (after unlocking all the decks in practice) and got 7 wins with a below average mage deck (I'd rank it below average because I wasn't sure how good some of the cards were, and they turned out being pretty bad). Now, I have a good amount of Magic the Gathering experience, so I had an edge, but most of my wins happened earlier than they should have due to players just making bad plays. Not attacking cards in the proper order or not really playing cards in the best order.

Of all the games I lost, all 3 were to shamans that got early "big" cards and windfury on them. That really eats you up if you don't have a ton of spells to kill or CC them.

Also, the practice decks are awful. It is painful to play as anything because of how bad those basic decks are. =(

I think Shaman is hit or miss depending if you get a good card, at the right time, the Windfury on him. Having a 6/6+ with double attacks his brutal against a player without a taunt on the board. If they use a weapon buff, for that turn, that is even worse. Nearly 2/3rds of your life gone in one turn, and you're dead the next turn if you can't deal with him.

Overall, I prefer the mage the best, but hunters are pretty fun as well. I will be doing at least one more arena tonight (I've got enough coins for almost 2 I think and I can finish the do 100 hero damage with 2 wins to get more).

I still am hoping for a free Arena day. MtGO had one on Thursdays for drafts and you only got to keep the unopened packs you won, not the packs you opened to draft from. Since Arena doesn't give you the packs you open, there is little reason other than to take money it shouldn't be free. Maybe free Arena gives no gold / cards for rewards or something. I'd be okay with that.

Damn this game look interesting!
I know it's nothing like it but I played a lot of Runespell Overture and it was fun. Card games imo are to be played with cards and friends, not on PCs and consoles but this one is intriguing.

If someone has an invite feel free to send me one!

Have played about 20 total AI games after going through level 10 with the mage. Either I. Really good with the mage, or really crappy with everything else. Have lost almost every time. Did about 6 games as pally last night and was slaughtered. One time my initial cards where 2 sevens and a 4. When you have to flush your entire starting hand things aren't looking good for you.

Also I'm assuming you need to customize your decks as it doesn't seem like I'm getting any of the cards I've unlocked when playing other heroes.

The basic starting decks for practice are awful. The mage isn't that bad because you get decent spells and the mage is fairly easy to play with sub par cards from what I'm seeing. Play arena or constructed and you can get a much better deck to play with.

yeah you NEED to customize a deck. Though i can't find a way to change it once it's set. seems like a silly oversight.

It would actually translate damn near perfect to tablet / phones.

I played quite a few constructed unranked matches last night. I rebuilt my mage deck like 5 or 6 times before I got one I could consistently win at. I did lose a match last night because I couldn't draw a Flame strike. I had 5 cards left in my deck and still hadn't drawn 1 of the 2 I had. I would have won if I had just drawn that at any point prior. =(

Played a couple quick practices after doing a custom pally. Much easier that way but could take a good bit of tinkering to really get a deck you think could consistantly win against a player.

That is why I like Arena so much (and draft tournaments in general). Everyone gets a random assortment of cards and it is really luck of the draw. You don't run into those people who have the best cards money can buy and running into players with those super annoying decks aren't nearly as frequent.

I have enough coins for at least 2 arena entrances now, so I might run one. It sucks in unranked mode you get like 10 gold per win though. That means I have to win 15 matches (not including the dailies) to get into an arena. I'd be okay if it was something like 5 wins, but I guess Blizzard has to make their money.

I think it's a good idea too, but... didn't Blizzard say that they have no plans to put it on tablets?

I thought it was the opposite- they purposely developed a game that's easy to play on all mobile platforms.

So, Arena was down yesterday and the games I got were against an overwhelming majority of Warriors and quite a few people who must be rather high level of have a lot of cards. I got a few guys with incredible cards and almost everyone had a legendary. Now, my highest level is 18, so maybe I just haven't gotten any yet, but it sure reminded me why I dislike constructed decks. Those with tons of money get easy wins. =(

What, you play a minion that does 2 damage to all enemy minions, 4 damage to enemy hero, heals your hero for 2, and draw a card as OP?

more i play the more i think people are cheating. i swear at times opponents are able to bring out high cost minions fast. or bring out a bunch of low magic cost things. The cost just don't add up at times.

My mage deck kicks ass. my warrior one sucks ass. lol i haven't tried to many.

I haven't run into people cheating that I can see. However, I have run into a few people where I could have swore they had more than 2 of certain cards, or they just top decked me to death. I hate that.

I did win quite a few games in a row in unranked though (which isn't actually unranked I believe). I am probably getting matched up to people with a higher "skill" than me.

Arena lets you have more than 2x of the same card. Not sure if bug or intentional.

I'm still waiting for a beta invite. Hearthstone is currently the game I'm most excited about playing. I've been watching totalbiscuit's arena runs and it looks like the game has legs and one I can easily sink dozens of hours into. Plus even if it begins to get stale I imagine Blizzard will be releasing at least one expansion for it.
