I have about 450 gold saved up from daily quests.

Should I spend this on arena or on card packs? The card packs don't guarantee rares for particular classes, right? So I might get something that cannot be used with any of my leveled classes? Do you get cards or gold or what from arena play? Are there awards in ranked play mode (beyond fulfilling quest goals)?

Always spend the gold on arena (your first arena run is free.) In arena you always get a pack plus other prizes depending on how you did. The other prizes are gold, dust, or cards. The cost of arena is 150 vs. 100 for a pack. Usually you'll at least get 50 gold in prize money if you did average (3 wins, 3 losses) to make up the cost difference plus you'll have the fun of an arena run.

If you plan on getting into the game I'd recommend dropping some cash now for card packs. You'll get the greatest return at the beginning vs. later on where you might pull duplicates that are only worth a measly amount of dust.

If you're looking to spend gold, I think arena is a better value. It offers you some play (and the chance of trying out cards you don't have yet) plus a pack and the possibility to get it cheaper than 150 gold. If you get 7 wins, you get a pack and 150 gold back, essentially making the pack free.

And Humble, I've had those drafts where it is literally all junk or something that doesn't combo at all as well. I've had that happen in MtG drafts as well, but luckily, everyone else got junk too since it was from the same packs.

I have had that happen to me about 3 times now in arena. I had a mage pick for arena (when I was having DC issues) that had almost zero direct damage to pick from. All neutral effing minions. None of them the good ones either. Who the hell wants shit like being offered wisps 8 or 9 times. WTF am I going to do with 9 zero casting cost 1/1 critters in a mage deck? Not that I picked them, but it was really bad what I was being offered as the other two cards to pick from. Don't get me started on crap like having my rares be something stupid for my mage deck. Let's see: Murloc Oracle (damn impossible to mark a proper murlock deck from drafting), That balcksmith card (the one that is a 4/7 but really a 4/3 because he hurts himself), or that other shitty rare that allows the opponent to draw 2 extra cards as a battlecry. I had that to choose from as a rare pick once. I almost slammed my head into the table in frustration.

Just had a misadventure on a match against a Mage with a full Murloc deck. My Hunter was completely obliterated by turn 5. I was on the losing side but it was still pretty hilarious to watch all those Murlocs came out :biggrin:

I'm not that high yet, still around rank 16, but I find that I get matched with consistently more challenging opponents in ranked. It makes for a more enjoyable match.

Occasionally you run into a cheesy deck, but then you make sure you have a counter for it, or just take the loss and move on to the next one.

Mage burn deck with zero legendaries can easily be any other deck out there. Nothing funnier than watching a good mage deck stomp a deck full of legendaries and epics.

I faced a warlock that did that. What was funny was insta killing him when he did that. I was playing a cleric and did a thoughtsteal the turn before. I got that sacrificial pact card. 0 mana to destroy any demon and gain health. Lord Jaraxxus is a demon..... Pop! 0 mana kill. I'm pretty sure the guy was pissed.

A funny kill is someone playing Millhouse Manastone against a mage with that legendary mage card. Everytime the mage casts a spell they get a fireball card put into their hand. Millhouse makes all spells cast 0 mana for the opponents next turn. So infinite fireballs

The first and only legendary I got was Lord Jaraxxus but I don't play warlock. Maybe I should just because now.

LOL! I messed with HS a bit yesterday and tried my new ARRRR!!-Adin deck. A Paladin pirate deck that is so much fun to use it's uncanny!

The biggest problem with this deck is you'll often end up with 1 or 2 cards in your hand if RNG is on your side and give you lots of 1 to 3 mana cards. But by this time what I examined is that you have a good control of the board and bashing the face of your opponent every turn. High risk high reward I guess...

What I might do is replacing the Argent Defender for a Sunfury Protector for a bit more taunters and survivability.

I effing HATE murloc decks...dammit
But a Pally has some nice tools to counter those: Equality+Consecration and Wild Pyromancer+Equality for board wipe. Aldor Peacekeeper for single targets...but still, I hate battling against a Warlock Murloc deck.

yeah, and going up against a mage/druid with a murloc deck = fail.

Hahahahh I hear ya. But Murlocs have so much synergies between them that it's hard not to try them, unlike Pirates which are a bit weird.

But have a class that rely on weapons and card draw and I think they can work. At least you don't see many Pirate decks out there, if any and it's cool to surprise your opponent with 4 pirates out on turn 2 ahhahaha!

I really like where my Piratadin deck is going, it's so much fun you no idea. I always start a turn with something useful and playable in hand so far which is a good sign.

Well first because I hate the Rogue class in every games lol, and i'm a Paladin fan. Second and maybe the more important reason is I don't like to follow "Obvious" or "cookie cutter" builds so I often try some weird combos, like Pally+Pirates.

My first idea was with the Warrior since he use lots of weapons but it felt too classic so I voted Paladin, which have some nice weapons too: Light's Justice, Sword of Justice, Truesilver Champion and the 5/3 weapon coming from Tirion. In some games i've had the luck of drawing the Sword of Justice soon which not only boosted the Pirates that have the Battlecry: Gain attack equal to weapon attack but also boosted 1/1 every minion played while it is equipped. So a 1/1 Pirate becomes a 3/2 without breaking a sweat.

I really like the cards link and how everything works together.

I'm amazed at how many mages ow longer use arcane explosion. Running a lock with a bunch of low health mobs and blood imp to improve them. A simple explosion not only weakens my guys but kills the imp, but not once the last half a dozen play sessions have I come across a mage that used one.

I use it ^_^ Add in a couple of +spell damage minions and arcane explosion is awesome.
