Is this game good? I never played any sort of card games in my life. I have played UNO though hehehe

Does this game require alot of brain/thinking skill? Maybe I pass lol xD

If I can play it, you can play it. Let's leave it at that.

Do you need to buy packs to make yourself viable in ranked matches?

Yes. However, keep in mind that you can purchase cards with gold and you get a pack every time you finish an Arena run regardless of your win/loss rate. A card pack is 100 gold, and an Arena run is 150 gold. It is possible to get more gold from Arena than you spent to enter if you win at least 7 games.

Honestly, you don't need a lot of the crazy, legendary cards to be the best. They can be nice in situations, but a lot of it matters in how you play. However, when you're just starting out, you may be missing certain cards. For example, I just got a silence card. Silence is one of the ways that you can counter those weird, quirky cards, and they're quite nice in any deck. So, not having one can be detrimental at times.

How many of you guys buy packs?

I might buy a few, but I haven't yet.

Can you eventually unlock every card there is by simply leveling and not spending any real money?

Yes.

I will destroy you at UNO (I was quite the UNO shark in my college days) and Hearthstone!

Poor paladin... I got the perfect draw on my priest last night against a paladin. I was second and got a lightwell, priestess (1/3 +draw card when minion healed), double health, set attack equal health. The paladin didn't play a card on the first turn, the card I drew was a double health. I played my priestess. Paladin popped a 1/1 out. I drew a +2 health and draw a card, and played my lightwell and killed the 1/1 with the priestess. He played a 2/3 crocodile. My lightwell healled my priestess, I got another +2 health and draw a card from the heal and a 3/2 add +1/+1 to a minion for my draw. I played the coin and both +2 health on the lightwell as well as a double health (0/18). He played a 3/2 +1/+1 on the crock and killed my priestess. I said well played, doubled health on the lightwell 0/36, and set attack equal health 36/36 and killed him.

And there's players that cry over Rag or UTH...
Sure you got lucky on your draws but 1 out of 2 games I get this combo in my face, not fun at all and I have a hard time with this play, but I understand it's part of the game and move on.

But damn...getting killed on turn 4 sucks ass

When this last season started it was like that for me and I mostly played on my Pally. Then when you get up in ranks it's Hunters and Locks...so i'm starting to see less and less pristes so I can finally play and have fun lol.

So, for the longest time, I mostly watched a lot of Hearthstone (I find videos explaining opinions on cards to be rather invaluable), but barely played at all. I took out my Mage deck, which really isn't all that great as I've actually gotten a few interesting cards recently (e.g. Faceless Manipulator) that I should consider working into the deck. I built the deck a long time ago after I leveled my Mage up playing against the A.I..

Anyway! Even though I just downplayed the deck, I was able to move up to Rank 19 without a single loss, which probably isn't a great accomplishment given those are the "easy ranks". I can only recall one boneheaded mistake, and it was in the last match. My opponent had a Windfury Harpy on the board. I could have taken it out with my cards, but I decided to polymorph it to preserve my Gurubashi Berserker. I should have killed it with my 1/4, but I wasn't thinking. He buffed the sheep and killed my Berserker.

Oh well... I really just want the card back.

EDIT:

OH! I just remembered that I fought this one rather competent Rogue. Man, this guy must've read just about every trick in the book! Using TotalBiscuit's terminology, he "bounced" me by overloading my hand. I only lost one card, and it wasn't too serious. However, I really couldn't avoid it... unless I wanted to use an Acidic Swamp Ooze when he didn't have a weapon equipped. I was really debating that quite a bit since I had already destroyed an Assassin's Blade earlier, and there's a chance that he wasn't using a weapon heavy deck. Anyway, he sapped me twice and used vanish once. The thing is... that was his only trick that I didn't have an answer for! He tossed out some NASTY creatures, and tried to avoid me killing them off via Conceal. I just Flamestriked them! He tried to buff up characters like Van Cleef, but I forced him to return Van Cleef to his hand or else he was going to lose him. However, he then played Van Cleef again, and I just polymorphed him.

Not sure what's going on recently, maybe everyone is playing diablo now including the deck laden streamers but over the last week or so I?e managed to do all my dailies on lock or hunter with an occasional pally or druid and have hit rank 14. This is not even with great decks, my hunter only has 1 each of hound, lion, and hyena. Still seeing legendaries, but not more than 1 played in some time and that is much easier to withstand.

Yeah, I think there are a lot of newer players again (or I am being randomly matched against more newer players). Had a priest vs priest fight last night that was pretty good, but he obviously had never seen Rag before, as he silenced him, twice.... We were pretty even. He did get the lightwell combo out on me (nothing I could do since I didn't pull my 2 mana silence, only had the 4 mana silence all, which I used round 3 with the coin). I only took 18 damage from it, which I was able to slowly heal back up. We were trading back and forth against each other, until round 8 when I popped Rag. He silenced him with an owl and then again with a mass silence... I then popped the 6/5 taunt, +2 health, double health combo out on him to make it 6/14, and then just beat him over the head with Rag and the 6/14 healing them with my hero, and other minions (he had already used the 2 kill a minion with 5 or greater attack against my minions that gain 3 attack when damaged).

With the release of Ipad, there are definitely more people playing HS. I'm getting consistent 6-8 wins an arena run now.

played a Warlock

I'm down to 5 life

he has a 3/3 Silvermoon Guardian & 2 +0/1 buffing Imps

he Demonfires (+2/2 on demons or does 2 damage to non-demons) his Silvermoon which pops its bubble and attacks me for 3. I kill him when he ends his turn.

Yeah, you see a lot more stupid moves lately. I don't know if it is because of the interface or if they are really screwing up. For instance, last night, I had a mage that sheeped his own minion...

I've heard people are having some issues on the pad with targetting and such. Since I don't own won this would be to my advantage

Have noticed a lot of attacks/spells look like they are targetting a different thing than they hit (see a mob with red target highlight) so that may have something to do with the ipad client.

Was playing someone, a mage or shammy I think, that went and blew all their big minion nulification spells early which made me happy as I had several of the big cost ones in my hand just waiting for the mana to drop.

I was playing a hunter in arena last night. I had my mouse button slip as I was on turn two and about to kill his minion with an arcane shot. Not sure what happened, but the game thought I had let go of the mouse button my character portrait instead. So I zapped myself for 2 damage instead of killing his minion. It is rare, but it happens. I was like WTF?

I still ended up winning.

On that note though, I had an awesome hunter arena draft deck for once. I still only went 3/6 though. Screwed on the RNG 3 times. One of my losses I would have 1 if I had drawn a single card that I was wanting. Funny thing is I was down to the wire with 6 cards left and 4 of them were the same card and the card which would have one me the game. Instead, for 2 turns I draw the OTHER cards that did nothing for me and I lose. All I needed was a fucking Kill Command (had 4 of them in the deck) and I couldn't draw it to kill the guy as he had 5 life left. I knew I was dead after 2 turns and I had nothing left to kill him with besides that damn card. ARGH! Well I wasn't sure I was going to die in 2 turns either. I had 8 health, and the board was clear. But I figured 2 turns to either put a minion or something down or a DD spell. The mage ended up drawing a pyro blast to finish me before I drew my DD. Of course he had to wipe the board on my side with a flamestrike which left me with nothing except my hero power.

Yeah, a Paladin used Humility on his own minion last night. :$

If you drop the card, doesn't it just give you the target arrow, which won't actually take effect until you click? I think most people are just used to holding the button down, but it takes effect on Mouse Up. So, if you wait to click, you may be safer... I guess?

I have been playing since the closed beta and bought an iPad recently to play on and have definitely had problems doing damage to myself and my minions. The touch screen mechanic is a bit different for the iPad then my Windows 8 touchscreen laptop.

Looks like season 2 will have another card back as its reward, wonder how long they'll be doing this?

Saw that they will have some progress to report on soon with the spectator node; my thinking is they want to have it live or beta about to go live by blizzcon.

I did a little Casual Play last night, and I think I found where all the gimmicky decks were hiding. I also managed to cast Fireball on myself while playing no my iPad. The thing is... I swear I pulled it back far enough to put it back in my hand.

Looks like season 2 will have another card back as its reward, wonder how long they'll be doing this?

I can't imagine that coming up with a single image is too much work for them.

Minimal work, but with each season being only a month at some point you have to decide if this novelty is worth it.

Dumb question - Does this game require skill? I've heard it's very casual and a noob like me can get into the game in matter of hours? Is that true? I really want to start playing because I have a 15 hour flight this week and I want to play Heartstone on my iPad during the flight hehehe

Played a little last night. Had the quest to just get 2 wins with either rogue or warrior. Warrior for me is the better deck with the cards I have. Played 10 hands and couldn't win 1. It was the most frustrating thing. Every single time I had the person down to less than 10 health (usually 5 or less) and was 1 action from finishing the job. Then they miraculously pull the exact card they need to save themselves and turn the game around. Ugh.

There are minimal things provided to read, but the tutorial plus built in system messages will allow you to understand all of the game basics fairly quickly.

I would have turned that one back in, think those 2 are my least favorite class. Just don't have enough of their cards to make them effective.
