I'm rank 15 in constructed, almost exclusively playing as paladin. If you are trying to say it's not viable to reach rank 1, that might be true, but it's done okay so far.

Paladin is actually really good vs the very common hunters. The key to beating hunters is to keep your minion count low, so they can't vulture + UTH for insane card draw. I usually limit to 2 or 3 minions at most, unless I know he has already played 2 copies of UTH or vulture.

Anyway, why is paladin good? Weapons. Truesilver champion is a great way to get some board presence vs a hunter without feeding UTH with a higher minion count. Sword of justice is great for making your hero power guys a real threat. Consecration & avenging wrath will often wipe out the entire hunter side, and do some damage to the face as an added bonus.

Yes I meant to say to move up in ladder, Paladin sucks. I might have seen 1 after hitting 5 and just facerolled him. No offense but the hunters you are playing against either just suck or don't have the right cards like leeroy jenkins or traps.

knocked out my first 3 wins last night... dunno if it was just luck or what.

Gurubashi berserker is a beast. once I get him unloaded with a few low-cost taunt cards in my hand, I was just attacking the berserker myself, boosting his attack, and destroying the other guy.

Yup, Berserker is a really good card for a Mage or possibly even against a Hunter or Paladin (they tend to summon 1/1s). You do have to be careful that there are plenty of ways to counteract a card like that though; however, you can argue that putting all your stock in one card's gimmick is dangerous regardless of the card.

I think the only card that is partially immune to that would be Ragnaros. If you silence the card (removes its end-turn 8 damage fireball), he just becomes an 8/8 that can attack.

Rag has his weaknesses just like everything. The nice think about rag is that you get the 8 damage the first round you put him out. On the next round, you need to worry about the priests with "kill minion with 5 or greater attack", paladins with silence+humility combos, or level the playing field+2 damage all enemy minions, hunters with change health to 1+explosive shot or other damage, mages with sheep, fireball+2 more damage, rogues with assassinate, anyone with big game hunter.... In other words, there are plenty of cards out there that will take care of a rag...

Don't get me wrong, I will put rag in just about every deck due to it applying an immediate 8 damage (even though it is random). With some board presence already, you can typically give yourself good odds as to where the damage will occur to be useful. And if you had a good mid mana deck, you may have already forced the opponent to play most of the cards that can easily deal with rag, at which point, he becomes very costly to handle.

Oh, no... I wasn't trying to insist that he didn't. I just meant that his special nature wasn't affected by silence like a lot of other cards are. For example, the Lightspawn is made useless by a silence.

Speaking of Ragnaros, I did my first arena match today, and I got killed by Rag. The part that confuses me is that I thought I was going to be okay. I had Ice Barrier up, which is supposed to give you +8 armor when you get attacked, but Rag's fireball hit me, and it just killed me immediately. I thought that once you got hit, the armor immediately came up and took the damage. Am I remembering it wrong?

those type of secrets only apply when you are attacked by a minion, and possibly a weapon wielding hero.

it's a time sink game, actual money reduces some of the time constraint.

Rag's damage isn't considered an attack since it is indirect and not the minion physically attacking you (just like the barrier wouldn't be triggered by another mage's 1 damage fireblast).

Any word on when the expansion/new cards come out? I have stopped buying decks with gold ever since I heard. I get crap anymore in my decks most of the time anyway (have had a total of 1 legendary pop, which I dusted along with all the other crap cards I had and made a rag)

The Curse of Naxxramus adventure (30 new cards) is supposed to launch in summer.

How good are warriors in this current meta?

Warriors are the best, at least around rank 13 to 9 in ranked.

Switched from paladin to control-warrior and been moving up in ranks fast. It only really loses to control priest decks, which are very rare because they get destroyed by the super common hunters and agro warlock decks.

Ah ha alright thanks man. I know that Locks and hunters make up most of the meta. Control warrior are good against them right?

Planning to switch from pally to control warrior too.

Any of you spent any money on this game yet? If so, how much?

$0.00

have around 2,000 gold to work with. only use gold on Arena runs. I usually just get dust from packs now and purchase cards with dust when I want to.

I grabbed a $10 pack during beta to get the gold goblin.

Blizz posted that you need to be 20 or above this season to get the panda card back, after that it's not attainable and a new one will be available next season.

I'm currently at a nail-biting 2-2 in this current run! The second loss was evening out a bit near the end, but my deck lacks any sort of full-clears (i.e. Flamestrike) and my opponent had one. He eventually dumped out two Mirror Images, and I just couldn't clear them fast enough.

On the first game I won, I had something somewhat amusing happen. So, when I was choosing my deck, I was showing my friend the whole thing. He saw that the one giant was a 20-cost card, and he was asking how you play it. Well, I accidentally tapped on the card thinking I could zoom in on it, but that just chose the card. Well, my health was getting a bit low, and I was able to use the giant for either next to nothing or for free (it loses 1 mana cost per 1 HP that you've lost). I used a Shieldbarer to turn it into a taunt. I think he was eventually able to kill it, but I also turned a Gurubashi Berserker into a taunt, and he didn't have enough to kill it. For some reason, he still tried, which turned it into an 11/something card. I think it was my second win where I would have lost if I didn't use frost nova to buy myself an extra turn to setup some defenses. I ended up annihilating that guy!

I think it also helped that I drew a pyroblast.

Rag's damage isn't considered an attack since it is indirect and not the minion physically attacking you (just like the barrier wouldn't be triggered by another mage's 1 damage fireblast).

Oh... that's a bummer.

EDIT:

What panda card?

He means the back of the cards.

I'm thinking about getting into this game. Couple questions...
Do you need to buy packs to make yourself viable in ranked matches?
How many of you guys buy packs?
Can you eventually unlock every card there is by simply leveling and not spending any real money?
I'm not too sure on the mechanics as I'm at work and can't access much right now. Thanks in advance.
