Logged last night and ended up needing 4 matches to get to 20 for the cardback. Went and ran my hunter who is mostly original cards with a couple from naxx.

Went against 3 priest then a warlock. I'm guessing people don't see a lot of freeze and explosive traps and my freeze screwed my opponent several times. Like after watching a violet teacher played, then see 4 spell cards played to buff another minion and see board full of pupils. Buffed minion attacks, ends up back in the hand and then you drop buzzard/hound on them.

Even better was next game where I put KT out with 4 other minions. He kills his 2 reducing health of a couple of mine they plays the aoe killing all 4. After he hits end turn KT rezzes my entire side at full health.

Third priest didn't play many cards except those that gave draw then dropped a giant. Face mip and hunter mark moved it to my side of the board. Game snowballed from there.

Not much to say about the lock match other than it was fun to get malorne from my spider...of course other one drew me a damn chicken.

Yeah, I must say that hunter doesn't need a lot of cards to become a very good deck. There are a few traps that you need to have obtained/crafted, but really after that it decent.

On a side note, I am still LOVING my 2 cost minion priest deck. I can't tell you how many times I have just face stomped people with it. I have only lost 1 battle in it (won at least 14 now). Not only that, but it is also usually a fast match too, with me winning by turn 5 or 6 (but a couple times I have been forced to turn 10 or 11 by people with lots of insta-death cards for clearing). It is almost like people forgot that priests can create a monster out of almost nothing around turn 6 or 7, and absolutely need taunts out on the board if you didn't wipe the priest's board.

Remember playing a shammy with a deck like that once. If he didn't get the perfect draw order, could see him with an 80% lost rate. But when he does get a good draw order and the synergy clicked, it would be 99% win.

Fallen, do you mind listing your deck? How does it fare against Mech Mages and Mech Shaman?
I had Undertaker based low cost minion priest deck, that was scrapped after the UT nerf.

Off the top of my head (sorry not able to log in at the moment):

2x Leper Gnome
2x Clerics
2x 3/2+battlecry destroy opponent weapon (sorry can't think of the name)
2x 4/5+can't attack (watchmen?)
2x Shadowboxer
2x Lightwarden
2x owls
2x Deathlord
2x +2 health + draw card spells
2x double minion health spells
2x set attack = health spells
2x +2/4+1 spell damage spells
1x do 2 damage all enemy heal 2 all friendly

I can't remember the rest, possibly a silence spell, and a couple more 2 cost minions (I believe 2x 2/1+heal 2 damage minions are in there). The idea is to get a cleric out along with a shadowboxer or lightwarden and buff the hp on the lightwarden and/or cleric and simply keep them healed why clearing the enemy's minions from the board. The lightwarden will slowly become a monster on its own from you healing your minions and the card draw you are getting from the healing will let you have the spells needed to turn a deathlord into a monster, at which point you play one or both deathlords on turn 4-6 and on the next turn use your double healths+attack=health and facesmash (if you have a +2health spell, the deathlord becomes a 40/40, if not, it is still a 32/32, which kills anyone but a mage with a secret or a warrior with a lot of armor).

A freeze mage might cause some problems, but you simply need to get one of the 3 mana +2/4+1 spell damage spells on an early minion and you can typically survive the early mage spells/minions via heals. Only thing that can cause problems are heavy silence decks, but those are not the current "hotness", with most decks having only 1-2 silence anymore or a control priest (my only loss).

Started doing some blackrock last night. Had to fo the first battle twice, after first time I tabbed out just as the victory sequence started and when I tabbed back in I was at the selection screen again, no card reward and the guzzler not unlocked. Beat him again and then the next. It was getting late so after I finally lost at the third guy just turned it off. Will probably need to adjust cards a bit for his particular power.

i just had a pretty crazy game - playing warlock against mage, i had a just ok start but the mage eventually burned through my initial push. now he has the initiative and eventually has kelthuzad, thaddius, baron rivendare and a couple of sludge belchers with their spawns on the board against my 2 huge floating watchers and some taunts. looking about as bad as it gets. i was 1 second away from conceding, but i decided against it.

i draw a shadowflame, pump my remaining watcher to 12/12 and sac him. after cleaning up the spawns the table was my mistress of pain against his nothing. a few turns later we have some more guys on the table, it's me 7, him 1 and i'm on the edge of my seat for my finest comeback yet. then he draws the fireball + hero ping to steal the win back

I will state I have never played a card based game like Magic before in my life. I'm want to try this game out because a couple of buddies play it.

Do you guys have any suggestions or suggested reading I can do to familiarize myself with this game?

Ran through the first adventure wing last night. Beat the first 2 with my mage deck and the 3rd with my priest (buff spells for the win). The mage solo was pretty good as well. I know I lucked out some, as on turn 3-4 he put out the 4/4 legendary that makes all spells cost 0, at which time I then received an alexstraza for one of the cards, 2 sea giants, the paladin 6/6+taunt+shield legendary, and 2 of the new 5/5+end of turn cards cost -1 legendary. I played both of those on the next turn and my sea giants (since they were 0 cost with the number of minions on the board). Turn after that I alexstraza'ed him and killed him with the minions I had on left on the board.

The hunter was also pretty lucky on as on the first turn when he popped his hero power to cause each player to play a minion, I got the legendary 9 mana cost t-rex, which I used to beat him over the head with...

https://github.com/Epix37/Hearthstone-Deck-Tracker (totally optional)

i can tell you it's very difficult to start. you'll be limited by skill as well as budget/inventory, and the matchmaker will show you no mercy. but if you hang in there and practice, practice, practice you'll get familiar with the game - first the mechanics, then strategy.

depending on your budget, building your card inventory will be pretty slow. in hearthstone, you need at most 2 of any card because they can be shared across all your decks. after the single player noob phase, focus on building only 2 decks of different classes to avoid diluting your effort.

the best way of building your collection on short/no money is making gold from wins and daily quests, so 2 different classes helps there. then when you're feeling like a tough guy, spend your 150 gold on an arena run - 3 losses and you're out, but the reward for even 1 win (1 pack + something) is better than buying a pack of cards with the same 150 gold. cards you don't want can be melted down to make cards you do want, but the conversion rate is terrible, so just hang on to all of them until you're sure of what you're doing.

there's a new quest now where you get a classic pack as a reward for spectating a friend and your friend wins the game. I think this is Blizz's way to help out new players.

PS: Managed to finish the first wing inc class and heroic in a little over an hour. Class challenge with mage was fun

class challenges have been the best of these things so far.

and I really hope at some point sooner than later we get both coop pve and coop pvp.

They need to give a speed option, like 30 second turns. I am so tired of sitting there for almost the entire timer every turn. Some people are just too indecisive.

That's hilarious ^^

I am a noob, ranked up to lvl 23. I don't have the naxxas expansion. I want to get it or the mountain one. Should I spring for the mountain? I never bought the regular deck cards, I just kept buying the gnomes deck.

This game is pretty fun to play if u only have a few min. I like that it works exactly the same on PC and on IPAD.

Definately get the naxxramas expansion first. It's got a lot of cards which are useful with multiple decks. BRM on the other hand, I think it's too early to know but the overall quality of cards is lower than naxx.
Eg of nearly essential hearthstone cards from naxx:
Shade of naxx in druid decks
duplicate secret (mage)
Sludge belcher
Mad scientist (mage, hunter)
Loatheb
Voidcaller (warlock)
Death's bite for warrior (best weapon released yet imo)
And of course, Kel'Thuzad

And also, you should definately be getting as many classic card packs as you can instead of GvG card packs first. This is because classic cards are a lot more in number than GvG, so there will be much less pack to pack repetition of cards. Also, the overall useability of classic cards is higher than GvG cards.

There's now a quest which gives you a classic card pack for spectating a friend. Essentially the best quest for new players. If you've not already, search for a guide which mentions how to best reroll quests to maximize value.

i had the most interesting win the other night, really shitty warlock 3 vs a damn priest:

priest's turn 2 - coin, thoughtsteal
priest's turn 3 - plays mistress of pain
priest's turn 4 - plays auchenai soulpriest, and attacks with mistress of pain.

the mistress deals me 1 dmg and heals him for 1, which auchenai converts to 1 dmg, triggering the mistress heal for 1, which is 1 dmg...28, 27, 26, 25, 24, 23.....ROFL my 1st 4th turn kill

Yeah, I can't believe people still havn't seen that yet (or even just read the card's effect!).

Well, I did go ahead a craft a harrison jones. I was really debating that or finishing maxing out all priest specific cards (just missing 2 rares, and the original priest legendary that doubles healing/damage effect). I got to use him the first time out, and it was on a doom hammer (I am glad I had room in my hand for the cards).

I had an epic battle with a paladin this morning. I did wind up losing, but it was one of those, wow type battles. I mean, he had the perfect card for everything. I think he only played 4 cards that were not legendaries (they were paladin spells). I mean, I saw it all, Hogger, Harrison Jones (yes, he played it on me when I thoughtstole the 4/2 paladin sword), King Mukla, Captain Greenskin, The Black Knight, Sylvannas, Dr. Boom, Tirion Fordring, Sneed's Old Shredder, Kel'Thuzad (that is the one that won it for him as I had nothing left to deal with it and he had Sneed's Old Shredder out on the board). I mean, there was simply nothing I could do. The thing that really killed me is that he just had them EXACTLY when needed. It was almost like he knew exactly what cards I had in my hand and was able to force his card draw to get the perfect counter.

It's not bad manner... you get XP per card played, so it's best to play all your junk cards before the killing blow, if possible.

I did that to myself once. I had never seen the Mistress of Pain, but I wanted to have fun with it. Sadly enough, I was pretty much guaranteed to win that match prior to that.

I would assume that he's already max level. I normally let people finish me off to give them "the satisfaction of winning" (the killing blow), but in my humility, I appreciate it when they do it swiftly. Hell, I could just complete things far faster if I conceded. Albeit, conceding can be a bit presumptuous as I bet you everyone that has played a modest amount of Hearthstone games has seen a time where someone completely missed a seemingly obvious lethal.
