Ok, here's the deal:

I'm walking through Times Square early in the morning, since I'm somehow early for work. I'm by no means a New Yorker; I live in New Jersey, so i was savoring the experience. Looking around, I'm walking slowly while passing by MTV and such. For a few minutes, the sidewalk is effectively blocked by myself and a bunch of tourists, who are idly walking around and taking pictures.

Handicapped man in a wheelchair (no limbs missing, mind you) is trying to pass around us, since we're walking so damn slow. After several failed attempts to pass around me, he grabs an opportunity to pass by but unfortunately hits his wheel on the back of my shoe. I turn and look down at him as he rolls by me. I think nothing of it, until he looks over at me and says "You walk like an old fvcking man!"

Being out of my element in NYC, I've never really had to deal with people talking to me like that. Unfortunately, I said the first thing that came into my head, which happened to be "What do YOU know about walking?!"

....

Tourists gasped, New Yorkers laughed. The handicapped guy just stops moving, spins his chair around. Spittle is flying from his mouth, he's obviously extremely pissed. His reaction caught me off guard, I just decide to keep walking forward.


Cliff Notes:

- I'm walking through Times Square
- Handicapped/Cripple guy insults me
- I retort with an insult about said handicapped guy
- Laughter ensues, some are shocked
- Friends (in this case, co-workers) think I'm an asshole

Politically correct? Hell no...But was it justifiable?

As common courtesy dictates, you must yield the line if he is in a position to pass and is the faster vehicle...by moving over enough so he can get by. You don't have to give him the farm in terms of lane position, but move yourself so that he can overtake cleanly, then you can slip into the draft behind him.

I agree, he should have been able to pass unobstructed. But insults, that's a whole 'nother issue. Heh, NYC is a tough place

dude, wtf. I can see your need to retaliate...but he has enough problems to deal with!! He's handicapped for crying out loud. Maybe he was having a bad day. I know it gets fvuking annoying when tourists are walking slow as fvuk in front of me...and it must be even more annoying for him since he is in such a bulky wheelchair! Also maybe he had to be somewhere (doctors?)...the point is you dont know. I think you coulda cut him some slack. Was he wrong in opening his mouth? Yes. But you're just an asshole.

It was during lunch break..
This girl in my class was on the yearbook commitee and she wanted it to be perfect
so she was looking at photos of what to put on the cover.
the girl said "why don't we put a picture of me?"
and then i said "then it wouldn't be perfect, now would it?"

Keep in mind I was only 12.. but I still remember that moment.. the whole class went quiet and then exploded in laughter...
