That was the perfect thing to say at that moment. You should be proud of your wit

Congrats, now you're a true New Yorker. <- there isn't any middle finger emoticon in the list

To everyone else, this is TWO issues. (1)Guy in wheelchair bumps into guy - it happens.

(2)Guy in wheelchair bumps into guy and then says what the wheelchair dude says : FAIR GAME.

I like your reply - good job. Shows that you were onto this guy's game - the guy could've said sorry or something, but he didn't. You gave him the respect of answering his dig in the spirit it was given.

Think of it this way. The reason most people don't say things such as that is because:

1) it opens the door for a MAJOR asskicking by the "muscle man wheel-chair-dude's brother," who was previously out of your field of vision
2) most people aren't New Yorkers

Still, fine job.

Yeah, tough one. Don't know what he said constitutues an insult. Plus I'm biased, since I totally hate people who do star gazing in NY. Put yourself in their shoes, you're trying to go somewhere and there is a group of idiots stopped in the middle of the road bloacking you. I probably would've said the same thing, or most likely would've said "excuse me" in a tone of voice that made it sounds like "f*ck you"

Shame, shame on you !

to not only say such things to another but to then come here and seek justification, even praise
for it, shame on you !

If that man had upended his chair and ended up on the ground, would you have laughed, taken pics
to post for the edification of the other morally bankrupt individuals laughing here with you?

Do you have any clue as to how hard it is to navigate a wheelchair ? You're proper response should have been, "I'm sorry, I'm a gawking tourist"

The guy might have laughed, you might have had a 1 minute pleasant exchange !

Oh, please.

None of the excuses there gives the guy the right to insult MasterXen.

Just because he's in a wheel chair doesn't give him the right to be an a$$hole. If this is about common courtesy where was the guy in the wheel chair's?

I never intented to be praised for my actions, it is just a byproduct of the story. Let's not take it out of context here, as I said there was no feeling (or emotion) behind my comment to the man. I have no deep rooted hate for handicapped people, nor do I find them inferior. I didn't try to paint the picture in my favor, I have clearly stated that the outburst was unfortunate.

Undoubtedly, it must be hard to navigate NYC in a wheelchair. But the simple fact remains that had he kept his mouth shut, I sure as hell would not have said anything to him. I'm a amiable person by nature, the very reason why this shocked my friends so much.

That was a messed up thing to say. That being said, I don't think you should have ignored it and not said anything. I just think what you said was a little harsh.

That man had probably been repeatedly trying to politely navigate around you, he hit your foot, which could have caused you injury and caused him to end up on the ground, of course he was frustrated.

As we walk about the world we've got to be aware, you were in a daze and got called on it and probably rightly so. You need to check yourself.

Why is it that because the guy is in the wheel chair MasterXen has to be at fault?

What if the guy didn't trying to politely navigate around him? What if the guy in the wheel chair is just a bitter, angry a$$hole? Does his being in a wheel chair allow him to be one?

I would've laughed my a$$ off if I were in either the tourists' or the crip's shoes.
Being a New Yorker, I would've said the same thing to lighten the mood
