Hearts of Iron 2

How does the learning curve compare to Europa Universalis 1? Harder, easier, or about the same? IIRC I bought the jewel case version of EU from gogamer (would've preferred a hard copy manual over a *.pdf file) and at the time wasn't ready for such a relatively complex game.

I see Amazon's week long wait for Hearts of Iron 2 has become 24 hours. No tax and free shipping.

Compared to Europa Universalis I'd say alot easier learning curve. During EU alot of things simply were not documented well and there were some really abstract ideas in the game. But Hearts of Iron 2 by nature should be easier to understand because it is based on muchmore modern time period. Also, the manual for the game is very well written (For once!) and there are many tooltips in the game's interface which really are significant in helping you along. Though, be advised when I say it's alot easier you should know I've already become quite well versed with Paradox's games so my analysis may not apply well to your particular situation.

My first Italy Game

Rep Spain, Greece and Yugoslavia are mine. I am not at war with the Axis or Allies and do plan to keep it that way.

Germany took poland fast in 39' but has made no progress in France. They haven't declared war on Belgium or the Netherlands... but have annexed Denmark.

Bulgaria and Turkey still have guarantees of independence.

Fun game so far!

It's got a pretty decent tutorial which I did first, then I read the manual (well, I should say skipped around the manual......its got a ton of info). If you're a newbie like me, you'll want to do both, IMO.

Also, when you choose your research teams, what does it mean when their research expertise icons are shaded red? And those that have green boxes around them (maybe that info is in the manual and have missed it)

That's for the doctrine expertise, Land , Naval, Air, Etc.

How is the multi-player? I am mostly interested in playing against humans. Much more fun for me.

i'd really like to know the word count on this manual. i just picked up the game yesterdy and was like "holy chit!!" wen i started flipping thru it. i wen thru 1 of the in-game tutorial chapters (i think there are 6) but having never played the original it looks like i'l have to sieve thru the book as well.

the game looks awesome though and i'm sure it will be worth it.

Never really read the book unless I need to figure something out, but I do go through their forums from time to time and learn stuff. Last helpful thing I read was about capital ships need screening ships to maximize the effectiveness.

Here is a mod to get Japan working correctly. A user did some modification to Japan. Ever noticed that if you are not Japan, Japan never declares war on US? Reason is, that Japan bogs down in China, historically which is true, but causes it to never declare war on US to get a true WWII going.

Mod link, just follow directions.

I gave the mod a whirl by playing Italy. Japan so far has completely over run most of China and has declared war on US. So it seems to work, but that is only one game played.

Ok I saved on of my Scenarios but I can't seem to load it!!!! How the hell do you load this game?

When you restart the game, at the main menu area, click on Single Player game. On the bottom left you'll see your file name, Auto Save one and an old Auto Save one. Click on one of those, plus select your country, then bottom right to start.

That is if I remember correctly
