Heat from monitors - Can you avoid it?

I have 12 Lenovo l220x 22" LCD monitors in the same room, all right next to each other (some are stacked). After having them on for a hour or so I can feel the heat on my face. Literally, it is like a fan is blowing right into my face and it is HOT air. It was so bad that someone asked the other day if I got sun burned after spending a couple of hours in front of them.

My question, is there a device that can dissipate the heat that all of these monitors put out? What options do I have other than "turn up the air conditioner". I could run the air conditioner full tilt and it wouldnt matter because the air from the monitors is HOT and pushes outward toward you.

Suggestions? I hate to bag these and go with smaller monitors.

how about a ceiling fan, box fan, whatever. or even a small fan ventilating the monitors from behind.

if you have even a little circulation you should be OK.

LCD barely radiate heat. Try a CRT now that would leave your entire room with electronic radiation and heat up your room like a oven.

I know LCDs get hot, but not this hot. I think there's something wrong.

No, he is legit, the back of my 22" LCD says 55w. 12 x 55w = 660w. That's quite a lot.

Do you need them on all at the same time? If so, then putting a box fan at the back and blowing across should circulate the heat, but you will need to open a window or something to dissipate the air.
I'd hate to see it there in the summer.. that will be murder.

I'm guessing day trader.

EDIT: btw after thinking about this a little while I decided that a ceiling fan will probably be your best bet overall as long as you are at least about 2 feet away from the monitors. if you are super close to them, you might need to consider a more direct solution...like a ceiling fan right above them.

If time and money are no object, then install a vent fan (like in your bathroom) behind the monitors in addition to a celing fan. This will exhaust most of the heat at the source, which believe it or not is the back of an LCD...at least my two LCDs.

Don't forget the computers either, he has to be running at least 2 computers, which would push his power usage to over 1000W. He's basically working in a room with a silicon spaceheater.

I'd go with the suggestion for a fan. You need to not just get cool air in to the room, but blow the hot air away from yourself.

I call bs. I've been in a small room with 8 desktop computers running with 19" monitors and the room was really cool even in summer. And no one gets sunburned except from direct light exposure.

i've been in rooms with 20 PCs + 20 Monitors, the difference in room temps between that and the room next door without PCs was probably 5F, nothing that with make u sweat if u weren't sweating already.

I can believe it.

I have a 24" PMVA soyo, a couple of different 19" TN, and a few odd laptops. The TN screens are cool enough to the touch, there's some heat rising out of the vents on the top/back. (Mostly the power adapter). But the PMVA screen actually radiates heat that can be felt 2-3" from the display surface. Subjectively, I'd say it's around 85-90 degrees F.

If I had 12 of them surrounding me radiating that much energy, my body might send more blood to the skin vessels to cope with the heat thereby giving me a redder complexion. No "sunburn" damage, but probably some flushness.

One option might be to place some plexiglass or filter material over the screens. Should stop any radiant energy.
