Heat Shrink Tubing

What am I supposed to melt heat shrink tubing with? Would a hair blow dryer work?

Normally you use a heat gun (basically an overpowered hairdryer with a much hotter heating element), but sometimes a hairdryer set to 'high' will work in a pinch.

A butane lighter with a long soft flame works well, just keep the heat moving, don't linger in one spot too long. If your using shrink tubing with nylon sleeving, practice on several test scraps first. Rotate the plot as the flame is moved back and forth.
Nylon mesh sleeving does not tolerate open flame very well.

I bought a 600-1000 watt heat gun from Harbor Freight for $10 on sale. They are now $15.

Using a deflector as shown in ribbon's link, is the hot set-up when working inside the case.
