Heater and hot water not working in condo

I moved into a condo, and the heater is not working at all. It's just pumping out room-temperature air, i.e. cold air, and a few months back when I wanted air conditioning, it again was pumping out room-temperature air i.e. hot air.

Also, there is no hot water if I take a shower on 2 or more consecutive days.

Any ideas? Should I just call a repair man?

If you can't figure out what's wrong, you're probably not going to fix it yourself. Call a repairman.

If neither your hot water or heat are working, it sounds like it may be a problem with the natural gas supply coming into the house.

Is this something I can handle myself, or should I call a repair man?

You do not want to fool around with natural gas unless you know what you're doing. If you really think that's the problem, call your local gas company. They might even fix it for free if it's a problem with their equipment.

If you can't even figure out what the problem is, you have a snowball's chance in hell of fixing it.

Why are you so sure it uses natural gas?

My first thought is how old is the furnace and water heater? Replacing a water heater isn't that bad, but it will take time and proper tools. However, this isn't something you just pick up.

True, it may not be...but if neither the furnace or the water heater are working correctly, it seems like a safe bet.

If it is the natural gas, do you think it would have been the reason why the air conditioning unit was not working a few months ago (it was pumping out room-temperature air, just like now).

If it has a furnace, why would it need a water heater? I have a oil furnace, and a water tank.

It sounds like he has central HVAC for heat and A/C, and the water is from a water heater unless he doesn't have central HVAC and actually has a furnace. Also, it really depends on where the condo is. Up here in New England, a lot more people use oil than gas. Gas is not even available where I live..

OP -

Ummm..wouldn't you know what it uses for heat/hot water being the owner? Like...do you pay a gas bill, or not?

 First check if the pilot light is on before investigating any further.
