Heatsink - blow or suck?

I have an Alpha PAL6035 for socket A (using on a duron).
Currently, I have the fan sucking air off the heatsink.
Is it better to blow air onto the heatsink?

I guess I could just try it.

Ian over at 2cool does heatsink tests and noted that the alpha PAL6035 performed better sucking... It may have been the PEP66 and not the PAL but either way it may hold true for all heatsinks... I'm curious to find out myself, i have a globalwin FOP 38 with that bad boy delta fan.

I saw about a 1C drop by sending the fan output INTO the heatsink (blow).

I did not change anything else. Meaning i did not remount the heatsink but only turned the fan around.

Sometime it depends on situation. I have an FOP32+1 and it's better for me sucking air than blowing.

I have my Alpha 7125 set up to suck because that pulls cool air across the chipset and gives lower readings to CPU temp. Because it is such a simple change why not just try it both ways?

AFAIK Alpha is the only hsf maker to design it with a fan that sucks. They also have a 'shroud' to complete the design. All other HSFs blow.

I think I just answered my own question.

I tried the fan both ways and sucking is definately much better than blowing.

Running with Prime95 for 15 min.
42C suck
44C blow

This is with the ALPHA 6035

Put it this way, if your hot, what get's u cooler quickest, a fan blowing on u or one than drags air around u??

Now let me ask you this. If you're hot and I were to blow some hot heat on you. Would you get any cooler? So it really depend on some situation.
