Im looking to push it to 3.0GHz.
Ive been looking around and so far i've been looking at the Tuniq Tower 120.

Can anyone recommend me a good heatsink+fan for my e6600? thanks. [:

My mobo is an ABIT ip35-e btw.

edit: something easy to install would be nice too :]

It all depends on how much you are willing to spend, and what your expectations are.

The top air coolers are definitely the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and the Tuniq Tower. Expect to spend ~$60-80 here depending on your choice of 120mm fans.

If you are looking for something cheaper the Zerotherm Nirvana is by no means a bad cooler for it's price point. An excellent value! $36 after $10MIR @ newegg.

Zalman CNPS9500/9700s are an old favorite but personally I think newer tower style coolers are better when cooling high wattage dual and quad cores. Still, they perform quite admirably and are an option. $45/60 (9500/9700)

If you are looking for something cheap quick and easy that will get the job done; the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro won?t let you down either. It can currently be had for $25 @ newegg.

Some more info on some of the coolers I mentioned can be found here. (Stock / OC / Noise comparisons)

EDIT: Just noticed Newegg has an unbelievable deal on the Tuniq Tower at the moment: $40 after $25 instant savings. This is a steal; I'd go for that.

If all you're looking for is 3ghz, the stock cooling is more than adequate for this.

what will estimated temps be if i overclocked my e6600 to 3GHz with stock cooling?

Budget wise: anything around or under $50. TRying to spend as least as possible but will spend more if necessary.

I'm at 2.7ghz with stock hsf and get somewhere between 49c to 51c(while gaming). When i had it at 3.0ghz i was getting somewhere between 56c to 59c again under gaming and under orthos i reach 60c, all with stock hsf. If you want a decent budget cooler Arctic Freezer 7 Pro will do the job, if you check anandtech reviews its show its a good performer. BTW i will be getting one this week and if you like i'll let you know what readings i'll get.

My setup is as follows:
C2D E6600@2.7ghz
mobo p35 ds3l
corsair xms 2x1gbs ddr2-800
Sapphire X1900XTX 512mb
CM690/PSU 600watt duo

Depends on how much voltage is needed, and what stepping your chip is. I doubt you'd see that high of temperatures though, maybe 60c depending on your ambient temperatures.

3.0ghz is a pretty conservative overclock now days.

Honestly can't hurt to try overclocking now. If your temperatures are getting astronomically high, try re-seating your stock heatsink. If that makes no difference, THEN consider new cooling.

Check your temperatures with coretemp, it's the most accurate temperature reading software.

I haven't gotten my parts yet, i will get them later this week. :]

I'll ask my friend what kind of stepping it is when i see him again. I will get the e6600 from him all together with my other parts.
