Looking to upgrade from a dying AMD XP 1700+ to an Intel Q6600. Obviously, I don't upgrade too often as you can tell from the XP still in use. This time around looking for something to last me atleast the next 2 years. Since my PC is dying right now, I plan to upgrade. I do understand the Q6600's run pretty warm and being in Florida, I'd like to reduce the heat.

I was looking at the Tuniq Tower as a possible solution. I rather not spend that much but if I have to, I will. Any other good options out to keep the quad cool without a $60 price tag?

unless youre ocing, the only reason would be to keep the noise down. big typhoon runs around $40, arctic cooling freezer pro is like $20

take your pick.

It also depends on your chassis design. You can add largest heatsink on the market and still receive negative results do to an inefficient air flow design. What kind of chassis do you have?

The Coolermaster Hyper TX is also a decent recommendation for a good price.

heh.... cuz of these guys, i get watercooling questions pm'd to me almost every day.

Go with your original pick. Dont be nit picky about 10-15 extra dollars. Think of it this way, if you go with a less efficient system, and you want that extra few C's the bigger sinks will give you, then your out 29 dollars on the original sink you bought.

Tuniq Tower FTW!

As far as the case goes, I was looking at the Cooler Master Centurion 5. I've read it has pretty good airflow for a cheaper case. I really don't want to throw too much cash on the case and it looked like a good deal. I could be mistaken so any advice is appreciated.

Motherboard for the q6600 that I plan to use is the Gigabyte P35. Apart from the Tuniq tower, I was checking out the Ultra-120(non extreme) and putting a nice cool/quiet fan on the setup. I don't want to lap the damn thing but I heard the regular ultra-120's didn't have problems like the extremes. As far as it stands at the moment, those are the options I've been looking at.

I am going to do some load testing tonight, but my Thermalright Ultra120 extreme keeps an idle temp of about 32C on my new Q6600 (measured in speedfan and everest ultimate). Mine showed up perfectly flat, so I did not need to lap it or anything, but there are some bad apples.
