Going to pick up a mobile 2600+ from Newegg.

Anyone have some suggestions for a decent heatsink/fan combo (something Newegg carries)?

I personally like the Thermaltake Silent Boost, but NewEgg is expensive at $32. Axiontech has them for $23, I purchased 2 from them for my Dual 2400+ mobile, overclocked to 2200mhz.

Yeah- Newegg dropped the 2600+ price to $99 shipped, so I thought I'd take advantage of that.

Axion charges $7 minimum to ship anything to me, so I'll probably just purchase from Newegg- only $2 more.

Thanks, that Thermaltake looks good.

Try this place for thermaltake HSF. The shipping is free and prices reasonable. It took about 4 days to be delivered for me. The heatsink is good on the silent boost but I replaced the fan on mine with another fan which wasn't much louder.

no I dont work for them

The thermaltake volcano 7+ works nicely, but probably isn't a good pick for you if you'd like a very quiet rig...regardless...it's about $18 at newegg
the extreme 12+ is a bit better, but costs double

Here's some links for you. The Speeze FalconRock is the cheapest, and is supposed to be good for up to around 2.3ghz: link, the TT Volcano 7+ (which I wouldn't recommend, btw): link, the TT Volcano 11+, which is better than the 7+, but only has temp. controlled fan: link, the TT Silent Boost, which I definitely wouldn't recommend, since you would also have to buy another fan for it, if you're going to overclock: link, and finally, my recommendation, the TT Volcano 12 Extreme, which has the same heatsink as the Silent Boost, but with a high-flow, adjustable (by you, not by a temp sensor) speed 80mm fan: link. If newegg had had these when I ordered my Thermalright SLK-900a, I would have gotten one of them instead.

I have the Volcano 11+ and have been more than satisfied with its cooling.

The Volcano 11+ has three different ways of fan adjustment:

Fullspeed all the time
Fan speed determined by sensor
Manual fan speed control (controller can connect to 5.25" bay or PCI slot)

I have a speeze falconrock cooling a mobile 2600 200x12.5 right now. Seems to be doing fine in the temperature dept for normal processing. I have not thrown the kitchen sink at it yet though. I will be doing that sometime this week. I expect it will handle it, but it will not be as cool as my other mobile 2600 system with a Thermalright SLK-947u w/Vantec Tornado 92mm on top.

If you are not going to overclock, try this.A great bargain and an effective HSF. If you care about noise, pick up a silent 80mm fan and you are in business.

How about a sp-97? with a good fan such as a thermaltake smartfan2, that would be nice........ very awesome heatsink in my book

Go with either a TT Silent Boost or Vantec Thermalflow w/TMD Fan, those two should allow you to maximize your air cooling option with out any blow drying noise. (and there under $25)

wow....i can't believe you guys are reccomending the silent boost. it's a terrible heatsink in my experience. my friend bought one and it left his mobile 2600+ running very hot and he ended up getting a rather disappointing overclock of 2.4ghz.

It's not a terrible heatsink, it's a good heatsink that's matched with a terrible fan. If you bought one, and intend to overclock (much), you'd have to replace the fan. Then you would have spent more than the Volcano 12 Extreme, which comes with a very nice, fully adjustable high-flow 80mm fan, that will cool a 2.5ghz Barton quite well.
