I highly recommend the Scythe Ninja for socket 939 users. I do also recommend a slight modification though. Use two Yate Loon fans, one each on opposite ends one pushing and one pulling. In this arrangement I have great cooling performance while WELL overclocked on an Opteron 148. Just a tip for someone to try. The second fan gives me 10-20 percent better efficiency.

PS I use a Full Tower SuperMicro case and have no drives in the motherboard half so there is plenty of room. You will have to consider case size for sure with this Behomoth of a heatsink.

Has anyone here used the Big Typhoon? I just ordered one, but the reviews seem quite mixed... are they just really clumsy when it comes to screwing the thing on there, because some sites say it makes it impossible while some call it "satisfying?"

Well, I ordered one since the Ninja was out of stock, so I'll let you know... maybe Friday or Saturday? Meh...

I want a review with the Conroe, according to THIS review, it didn't perform well for a $100 cooler. Also since the new procs are less in heating up than the prescotts, it is pretty late for this cooler to arrive in the market. I am thinking about trying it out on my setup if I can find a place that sells it. Also it isn't universal which while isn't a problem to most users who stick to one platform is bad news for people who are jumping often.

Well, I got the Big Typhoon ... they weren't lying; it's BIG! That one picture in the review posted in this thread showed in in relation to something that I thought was a small cellphone, but it must have been a huge PDA or something.

That said, it fit fine once I took the plastic shroud off the side of the case (Coolermaster Centurion). Mounting wasn't that bad, either, although I had to use the "alternative" mounting on my Gigabyte DS3 board. The instructions don't help much on it, but it's easy enough to figure out. It also came with thumb screws to tighten it down, so there was no problem trying to use a screwdriver.

It has a very quiet fan; I basically cannot hear it (especially since I had to get a crappy 120mm fan from Best Buy once the Coolermaster one died immediately...) and the system stays nice and cool anyway. With Core Temp it's reporting 40C constantly (on both cores) with one core under full load doing a distributed computing project. This is on a C2D 6300 running at 3.08GHz, stock voltage.

I am quite pleased with it. It's not so big that I'd worry much about the mobo being broken; it has a large mounting pad so the stress is spread out pretty far on the board.

Thar; my mini-review.

I've recently bought a Conroe E6600 which was idling in the high 40's and mid 60's under load with the stock heatsink. I changed to a Sunbeam Tech Silent Whisper with artic silver 5 applied which has dropped the temps by about 5 degrees but I worried this is still too hot considering it hasn't really hit summer where I live. I haven't been able to find a review of the Silent Square Pro anywhere and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with one.

i need a good low-profile (maybe 3-1/2" or so) for an incoming c2d 6400 on an nv 680i board. i have a 7000cu (or is it a 7700cu, i need to check) i may try but i'm not sure it will handle it.

any suggestions?
