In the first place environment has an influence on gene expression, not to mention the psychological changes to the brain caused by traumatic events. I have two objections to your suggestion, the first is that it leads some inevitably to the notion of eugenics and the second to blaming negative emotional states on one's own genes and thus avoiding any notion there is a problem there that might have a cure. That in turn leads to a society dependent on the notion there is a pill one can take for anything. It is already almost impossible to get people to see their issues are attitudinal and that perspectives can change. When we say 'Character Matters' what do we mean? What is character? Why in a society like ours when winning is everything would anybody want to develop anything like so called character.
