Bought it 5 days ago, and I've got almost 40 hours on mine. I did run it heavy the first day to allow the freezers to get everything frozen solid again.I've got close to five G's into a Generac 16KW standby that's got less than twenty run hours on it in the four years I've had it.
Prior to that, I'd had several multi-day outages, including two over eight days.

Easy enough to have a cut-off switch and transfer box installed that will provide power to only the places you want it. Outlets, lights, etc. MOST portable generators won't work for 240v outlets, but 8000 watts should easily power all your 110v stuff. Hopefully you were able to get an inverter generator. MUCH cleaner power if you want to power sensitive electronics...TV, computers, etc. "Normal" generators provide "dirty" (higher THD) power that can cause issues with the sensitive components. Also, an inverter generator is usually a bit quieter...and will run longer on the tank of fuel. (mine runs about 22 hours on 2 1/2 gallons of gasoline.
