Just read this article and man, that one lake lure fire official looks like a real asshat. Threatening a volunteer helicopter with arrest for rescuing people?

Asheville's Mayor is as useless as tits on a boar hog. Participating in very few pressers, and it all BS with zero useful info. But she wanted to be sure everyone knew Biden called HER.

OBTW, she is a lawyer, so no surprise there.

Sadly the people at these pressers with the best info, suggestions, etc., are the non-elected people like the Fire Chief.

Sheriff while elected is consice and no look at me politicing.

If tRump were in power, we would be more fucked than we already are with sycophants loyal to him running FEMA. I know this is not a political thread, but what better example do we see how fucking important it is to FUCKING VOTE in a month.

MM, I see from what people are posting on Reddit that people are starting to lose it. Hope you are hanging in there.

I was going to post some of the conspiracy theory bullshit that people are saying, but like you, I did not want to turn this into a political thread. I will say that if you need to evacuate, the government will not confiscate your house for the lithium underground.

Good luck dude.

We are good, but it's stressful, even with no damage to the house. No water for weeks yet (already at the 6-day mark on water, 8 days for power) is going to make it worse.

I'm armed, at all times. Nuff said.

Grandson, a Deputy Sheriff, spent last night guarding one of the bigger fire departments in the county. They have a tremendous amount of donates stuff, and he is there to insure it's not stolen before it is distributed. Gas lines seem to be the worst... so far.

My outings, hardware store, Tractor Supply, have been fairly normal, most people helpful, and pleasant. But I know the worst of us are out prowling, thus I'm armed.

Yellow jackets are the assholes of the insect world.

Had a big nest earlier, bears dug it up and handled it for me.

Bears and all the rotting food is going to make for some interesting encounters soon. We've had bears on our property almost every day.
I don’t have any of the flooding or related problems…and we have bears almost every day.

There was a medical call down the street from my daughter's house. The first responders that responded were from Cary NC, The ambulance was from California.

Lost power 6 AM or so on 9/27
Got power back at 3 PM on 10/5

Watched a video on the damage to the city's water system. Yea, it's going to be another couple of weeks at best. Roads, bridges that are gone prevented them from even getting to the reservoir for 3 days.

So glad you got your power back. Yes you had a generator, but now when you walk in a room and flip a light switch it will work.

Having a generator was awesome, but limited. Future plans to get some wiring done, so I don't have cords everywhere. It's an 8000 watt generator, so can handle a good bit. I did buy a 100" 10 GA cord to get power into the house, and had enough 12 and 14 GA cords to get everything necessary connected.

The food I was able to save equals at least half the cost of the generator.

I've got close to five G's into a Generac 16KW standby that's got less than twenty run hours on it in the four years I've had it.

Prior to that, I'd had several multi-day outages, including two over eight days.

Bought it 5 days ago, and I've got almost 40 hours on mine. I did run it heavy the first day to allow the freezers to get everything frozen solid again.

Taxes and all, less than $1,300 out the door.

Generators are great. We have our power turned off as a precaution when the Santa Ana winds blow (SoCal thing). Power outage and an autistic kid do not mix, so we bought a whole house generator. Love it!

My daughter and her husband are coming over to watch the Dodger game so I will get caught up on how his folks are doing in NC. I know they have power.

Easy enough to have a cut-off switch and transfer box installed that will provide power to only the places you want it. Outlets, lights, etc. MOST portable generators won't work for 240v outlets, but 8000 watts should easily power all your 110v stuff. Hopefully you were able to get an inverter generator. MUCH cleaner power if you want to power sensitive electronics...TV, computers, etc. "Normal" generators provide "dirty" (higher THD) power that can cause issues with the sensitive components. Also, an inverter generator is usually a bit quieter...and will run longer on the tank of fuel. (mine runs about 22 hours on 2 1/2 gallons of gasoline. (depending on the load)
