HELL playing GAMES, asf's or Divx avi's - NEED INFO PLEASE

I am running an Athlon 700 on an Abit KA7 with a Turtle Montego II sound card and a Asus V6600 (GeForce) video card.

I have a major problem running asf's or Divx movies. After running for about 3 or 4 minutes, the computer just freezes all of a sudden. On pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del twice, my system reboots fine (sometimes I have to hit the Reset button). I do have the latest Divx codecs installed along with Media Player 7.0 that I installed hoping things would turn out to be better doing so (not like it really helped any ).

I am really stressed out about the fact that I can't watch any movies on my computer unless I get them in mpeg form, which is becoming quite uncommon a video format now. Please help me out here with any sort of solutions to this problem.

media player 7 is your first problem
other than that, im not sure what the prob could be

reinstall directx 7.0a ontop of all that see if that helps. I agree that MS should fire the entire MediaPlayer 7 group. First of all the video window should have been opened in a seperate clean window that is resizable with pop up VCR buttons. Second you don't need to load the entire hog just to play a damm 3 second MP3 or Sound file AAAARRRRRRRR. FIRE THEM ALLLLLLLLL

Now, I can't play AOE2 or RollCage anymore. After about 3 or 4 minutes of playing them, my computer just freezes. I used to be able to play both games before I formatted my computer recently. The only things different from the setup I had before formatting are newer motherboard drivers for Via and the latest video card drivers from nVidia. After reading my first post, do you think is a DX7 problem or could it be any of the newer drivers that I've installed? (Anybody experience any such troubles?)

Please help me out - I'm desperate to get this fixed.
