Quite frankly, the speed at which FSS are dealing with bugs is tremendous. They must be working extra overtime hours to sort them out. For about a week and a half now, I have had a much stabler game and gaming experience.

I have a couple of unresolved graphical issues such as the odd looking Rifts. I can generally see the bottom crest of them and thats it but I am so pleased I bought this game.

It is one rare game that lives up to the hype, the gameplay you get perfectly fits Diablo 2 in a First/third Person Mould however the release date was probably a month too early in development and it shows. If you get a good session like I have at a weekend... about 5-6 hours straight without a crash... you will be totally addicted.

I am truly amazed at how good it looks, textures are amazing if you have the hardware to handle them or can deal with a lower frame rate (I am the latter, as long as its 20+ Im fine). DX10 is really shining.

Yes, I give them many props for that. I feel bad for the devs and their families though. That must suck a lot

I have never once been able to play in DX10 (beta or live) so I am looking forward to them fixing it so I can try it.

For me, DX10 has NEVER been broken. It has always worked on my 320mb BFG 8800GTS OC and my new 512mb BFG 8800GT OC

Must be an ATIMD thing then, I guess. Hoping the new 7.11 Cats come out soon to see if that fixes it.

Perhaps. I have read a lot on their forums and both sides have issues.

Nvidia's latest betas only really mention a Crysis improvement. No mention of Hellgate London in their recent stuff and arguably, it could be the bigger game over the course of a few months.

i think it is an AMD 'issue' ... the next Cats should fix it
- DX10 doesn't quite finish loading on my rig
-DX9 looks good and performance is excellent [except in the stations] and i am also looking forward to DX10

i gave up on MP - in fact, i canceled my HS internet "service" and am back to 56K {Flashbyte Digital sucks the big one with no Customer Service} - i am just not interested in Hg:L Online MP [period] ... perhaps i will check it out again in a few months ... perhaps around the time of the expansion i can bring my Level 33 Engineer out of retirement or ReStart my Level 10 Guardian.

My newest SP Char is now a Level 18 Summoner ... i have 7 fire elementals with +30% damage and an extra elemental - along with my main creature [a real "beast"]; the strategy is now very much like Overlord - it becomes a *minion game* and i am loving it - his team is SO much more powerful then a maxed-out Engineer with his bots and drones
- Hg:L is the *first* game i am playing thru twice [and i am really enjoying the Summoner differences from the Engineer and from the Blademaster/Guardian (although i loved the BM)
... and of course i am NOT paying attention to the Quest storyline and am getting [short and useless] cutscenes
:Q

BUT ... there still are mostly minor and irritating bugs .. sometime my main beast refuses to be summoned ... the process will complete but will need a second 'summon' to actually complete the summoning :|
i also have the 'memory leak' on one Vista partition [but not the MP partition] --BUT it has the sense to crash in a Station every time
---at any rate, it is a much [much] much better experience playing SP

i think the Witcher [import] is next on my list ... after a patch or two ... or perhaps i will play one of the 7 new game i still have not completed ... but this one has held my interest for close to 100 hours [so far, nothing on the 1250 hours i put into Oblivion ... but still pretty good ... perhaps i should try yet another character ...
i already got my forty bucks worth

To be honest apoppin, playing the SP is a fruitless exercise.

The Dev Team are working firstly on the MP side of things so they get more updates and sooner. The SP modes get updates days after the MP servers have been updated.

my point is that the SP is not giving me any major problems or bugs

i f'ing *hated* playing MP and don't "get" the point of it at all ... i HATE chat ... i hate HgL's setup for questing with other "real" people and certainly wont pay $10 a month for PvP ... OK?
and i DETESTED the regular issues with their servers playing the SP online solo.
--BUT ... in the future ... when i get a more reliable wireless HS connection ... perhaps i will bring Max back IF they fix it and make it more interesting and less cumbersome ... perhaps when they release an expansion ...

at any rate, i am loving the SP off the DVD ... Level 20 Summoner and it is getting more interesting and challenging to balance all the skill points and keep my minion's rolling ... with 8, unless i am caught right at the beginning without minions, it is like a hot knife thru butter

But ... i doubt i will plan another class ... i think 100+ hours of slaughter demon fun is enough and i AM looking forward to an expansion.

The good outweighs the bad ... well, my opinion of what's 'right' is high and i *tolerate* it's flaws for the sheer joy of blasting hordes of enemy NPCs.

i wonder what future games will be like ... 3 or 4 years from now - that will have HUNDREDS of enemy NPCs instead of merely "dozens" now

After playing for roughly 6 hours total (Level 12 Marksman) I'm VERY pleased with the game! It's definitely multithreaded; my C2D shows varying activity on both cores. Though I'm very curious if the game will use all 4 cores of my Q6600 which I'll have soon. We'll see.

Sure, the gameplay is repetitive; it's supposed to be! That's the idea of the game! I like it a lot. I enjoy getting new weapons and then modifying them, dropping in upgrades and such. It's a blast. I'm also learning what weapons to use on what enemies. A big 90 damage machine gun that does nothing on Spectral beings absolutely shreds Zombies.

I've had no crashes at. I almost got stuck in a few tight places that I went exploring, but crouching/jumping/moving around got me out.

I find the variety of enemies refreshing and exciting. I haven't said "WHOA! WTF is THAT THING? :Q" In a long time, in any game. I really like the options you can choose from when you die; it's something very different I've never seen before.

It is a beast of a game, hardware-wise, but that's to be expected. My rig runs it pretty well at 1920x1200 with 4xAA. I only get major slowdowns in big outdoor areas with lots of enemies and projectiles flying around. I'm sure if I turned AA off that would be a big help, but I likes my eye candy.

So far I'm very impressed and very happy. When I can't wait to get home to play a game, I know it's a good game.

Side note: Anyone know how to show FPS in Hellgate?

Glad you are enjoying it!

For FPS, open you your chat window and type /FPS; hit enter and you should be good to go.

Cheers,

you can also use FRAPs for any game ... however, just using it itself gives a very tiny performance hit

don't forget you need *everything* hot-keyed; especially your weapons tied to F1/F2/F3 for instant change ... the first time thru i made the error of trying to create a single super-weapon [and it DID kinda work]; it is far better to create 3 or 3 pairs and you also free up a lot of your inventory space

after 100 hours [plus] with this game [in 3 weeks counting the Beta :Q], i am still really loving it ... but i doubt i will make a 4th Char ... time to move on ... and wait for the X-pack; perhaps i will revisit MP then

Apoppin, with all that time invested, hve you given Nightmare a chance!? It's a whole other ballgame!!

I'm still having a blast with my Level 32 marksman in nightmare.

yes, i played my Engineer on Nightmare thru the first few quests again ... but playing it online is too irritating for me
--is it also unlocked in the SP Game when you complete it?

if so, then i guess i have a few more hours with it
:Q

"time Invested"?
... in a game?

you mean wasted

LOL. Wasted sounds about right. Nightmare is infact just that, a nightmare! Enemies are substantially harder. So if you were to shoot for level 50, it will take you a long long time to make it there.

Thats my goal, to make the level cap of 50. And I'll have fun doing it!

Thanks much, KT. Would you happen to know if Hellgate can/will use 4 cores?

Also, I don't think it's correct or fair to say playing Single Player is a "fruitless exercise." For those of us that work odd schedules and actually have lives, we only get to play for an hour here or there and can't be tied to one clan or whatever it's called these days.

Also, like apoppin, I really dislike chat and find it distracting.

I guess I'm in the minority of gamers here in that I strongly prefer single player campaigns/games over MP, and purchase my games accordingly. The last MP game I had fun with was the Original Unreal Tournament and Counter Strike. The challenge and intimacy of just me against the game makes me happy. When you've got 10 other people helping you, it's not much of a challenge anymore.

I am also in this minority; I never play multiplayer for anything unless I have people who are physically present at my place and can play with me. I've had no desire to play MMOs, with the only possibility being Guild Wars because I understand that I can have a good time playing solo in that game. For the most part, I don't want to have to *schedule* time to play a multiplayer game, as many times I'm just up for 30 minutes of play, so the SP campaign is great for this.

To be perfectly honest, in Diablo 2 and Hellgate London, most of my time is spent solo, moreso in Hellgate.

The HGL system of partying is not conducive to good fun whereas Diablo 2's was "join the next best Cow-game and follow it until its gone, then switch to the next one"

I never ever considered playing HGL as SP even if my online time is 95% solo. The MP gets updated more often and sooner, if someone I know is playing then I can play too, there is no disadvantage unless you have a dodgy connection or get "Network Error" a lot.

IMHO they should have called it Hellgate:Boring...man, talk about repetitive levels, very meh graphics for the system requirements and a plethora of bugs that kept crashing the game.

I'm a great fan of the genre and install Diablo 1 & 2 on every new build I do- in fact the build isn't complete until that is done. I don't know if it was just all the hype leading up to it or what, but I'm completely underwhelmed. I'll probably pick it up again sometime in the future but right now there are other games out that I'd rather be playing.

I think what made me attach to HG:L so much was the fact that I forgot about it for a year. I thought "hmph, another STALKER, so long in production why bother reading? Ill just look at it when its released"

Got into the Beta, loved it, pre-ordered it, found out that Amazon.co.uk do not offer a pre-order code and voila. Im hooked but I'll be damned if I am paying a subscribers fee atm.

don't think so because i'm pretty sure the MP characters are saved on Flagship's servers or whatever.
