It's been... 5 months since I posted about this beautiful looking game. Sadly my topic was archived and is no longer available for bumpage, so I gotta start a new one.

If you are just joining us, Hellgate: London is being developed by Flagship Studios. I'll be quick about what this is. The people who designed Diablo quit Blizzard to form Flagship so they could make Hellgate, what they feel Diablo always should have been. We get everything Diablo has, which is randomly generated levels and thousands of items to hunt down, plus a twist. It's in first-person. Don't worry though, you don't need fancy FPS skills to be good. They are making it just as easy as point and click like Diablo, just from a different perspective. They feel this perspective better puts the person into the atmosphere of the game.

One of the trailers is in-game footage, but there is no date released at all for the game to come out. They might be trying a sleeper hit kind of deal, not letting anyone know till a week before it comes out maybe. In any case, I will definitely be buying it day 1 and will probably uninstall every other game I have. My room will be locked for 4 years at least.

I should mention that you don't have to play in first person, you can play in third person the entire time if you like.

First person killed it for me, but that information is AWESOME! Heres to hoping this game will be released early next year or something like that!

After playing Morrowind I realized how awesome first person is in an RPG. For any ranged fighting, first person = win. However, I also found out anything melee sucks in FP, you need third person. From one of the gameplay videos, I think you could do everything in third person just fine, and it looks cool too. It's kind of the same angle as max payne.

Im just frustrated that Ive got no cash to buy 3 games to keep me entertained until HG:L is released.

I think it's interesting that the dev talking in one of the gameplay footages keeps saying "you wont need good reflexes like the kid down the street". I know that is the whole point of RPG's, but I've never heard so blatantly from an official source that sheer time thrown at the game, not skill, will help you out.

EDIT: This does look like a pretty sweet game though, first of its kind for the types of weapons it has. My hope is that it can keep the fast-paced gameplay of DII, and not be a "looking for the right path the dev wants for you" like most single player FPSes. It's so lame just trying to find out what you think the dev thinks you should do next, so boring, the biggest detractor from singleplayer FPSes, IMO. Looks like it wont run that well on todays hardware though -- it was locking up a little on the 7800gtx in the video.

If I remember the footage correctly, they were playing it on a 6800 Flavour card prior to the 7800GTX so It cant be that bad...

We have no details about what graphics level they were playing at, nor the resolution or anything else about the system so we cant really derive anything from this apart from it may possibly be Nvidia optimised.

As biostud said, unfinished or unoptimised code is another reason for "poor performance".

While some of the ideas intrigue me for this type of title (upgradable/slotted weapons and armour, randomly generated levels), the whole idea of a Diablo in first person just made me not so interested. I hadn't heard that you can play the game in 3rd person though, so maybe that'll help things out.

how do you think you get a good char in any RPG? leveling up and getting good items, simple as that. that requires time, so time is basically the determining factor - they can't hand out uber items like candy, you know.
