Hi guys.
Some have wondered what happened. Some don't care. I understand both.
Yeah... I was really pissed off about the snub that Bot got from the 'establishment' after his valiant and courageous defense of David McOwen. I felt he was far more deserving of the "Elite" title than I was.
It's funny when I look back on it because Bob and I had some of the most vehement flame-wars I've ever been in... and ended up best of friends. Funny how that works out eh?
But - that's not really what it's been about. After 23 years of service to the I.T. industry - I lost my job in the blood-bath and the merger between CPQ and HWP. Nothing I did... I'd just completed the single most profitable professional services program in N. American PS history, and was thanked with a pink slip. Compaq can kiss my... well... you know.
That kinda soured me on computing a bit. Understandable I think.
I don't for a moment assume that my trials have been worse than anyone elses, and I know some of you are in the same boat I'm in, and my heart goes out to you. I just wanted to take a moment and let you all know that I think of you often, and I miss the fun we had. I hope this thing turns around... I really do. It's pretty ugly, the very, very talented Engineers I had - now unemployed... the fine folks losing posessions, marriages, etc. It sucks to a factor of about 99 to the power of 11.
I've struck off in a completely different direction, and I may fall flat on my face, but at least I'll have tried. I'm awaiting my very first U.S. Patent, which is presently pending in examination now.
I may return to DC at some point, but not likely at the level it once was. I've only lost about 150 machines in the process. Just wanted you all to know that for whatever it's worth - you're a great bunch of folks. We've had our agreements and our disagreements but I wish all of you the very best!
Sincerely -
DanC
