these contestants go from not being able to boil an egg properly to making top notch dishes.

because they just cook the same menu night after night. well they did when i used to watch this stupid show. i like top chef but last season was pretty dull, i coulnt get into the chefs like i have in the past, they seem very hells kitchen "like".

he's had plenty of restaurants fail, although i think the more recent ones have left others on the hook and not himself personally. i won't even bring up the fake hair, his "gastro-pub" that was serving pre-cooked food from another of his joints, or his supposed soccer career which magically has no record of existing.

A couple of weeks ago I went to a place he helped. They have his picture up with the owners etc. I never thought the place needed help long before he went. Our waitress wasn't the best, so maybe him going didn't do much.

There's no way a week with him can fix problems---especially if they're behavior problems. As soon as he leaves the same mistakes will start filling in. Financial or reputation problems have the best chance of being fixed because those all have to do with poor planning or presentation.

I ate at Giuseppe's in Michigan some time back after Ramsay left, and it was truly excellent. The father/son chefs there have a lot of talent. The problem is it was a pricey place in a failing blue-collar town. I think the next fine dining experience there was the McDonalds with the new play-land down the street. They had a good place, but no customers. I'm thinking a lot of places are like that.

His restaurants suffered from the weak economy. Nobody can afford $100 meals when there's no jobs. In an interview he said he pumped millions into his business in 2009 and even sold his prized Ferrari 430. He started using cheaper cuts of meat and revamped his menus for lower prices, and it worked. All of his restaurants and now doing well, plus he's about to open a new place in Las Vegas.

1) Hair - yep, had implants. It's what celebrities do. Hell, I would do it if I had the cash.
2) The "gastro-pub" story was a misunderstanding: the kitchen at the eatery was limited so food was often cooked at another location and brought over. The way it was reported gave the impression that it was pre-made Banquet frozen dinners or something.
3)The official story about the soccer career was he was "on his way" to joining the Rangers as a "trailist", but was injured 6 months in. Here's a team pic:

I doubt the show is scripted at all - they probably have a bunch of cameras around and then just piece the footage later on to make the show interesting.

I've always wanted to see a show reviewing places he help fix to see how well they are doing - if they reverted back to their old ways or managed to listen to him and stick with it.

Like him or not - he seems to love what he's doing and is one of the best.

there is a documentary on him on youtube (can't remember the name) that goes into his time playing soccer and interviews his coach and teammates if you don't believe he actually played. apparently his dad was a real asshole and is part of the reason he's such a perfectionist now.

mario batali was on a day in the life (on hulu) this season. dude has a full day, and i'm sure he doesn't have his hands in half the things ramsay does. if you haven't seen a day in the life i highly recommend it, hasn't been a bad episode yet.

That was MasterChef.

I watch Hell's Kitchen for the bad cooking, not the good cooking. I'm always amazed at the people who claim they are chefs with years of experience who can't even properly sear/cook a scallop.
