hi yall.

i just got an amd 3000+ 939 to go with the asus a8v deluxe rev. 2

okay, i'm not new to system building.
my last 4 computers have all been AMD.

the new thing on this board was the 4 pin power connector.
other than that, i really can't see what's different from all the other systems i put together.

[b/i took off the wires[/b] to the power button, reset switch, HD led, etc.

do i have a defective board?

can you be more specific? You mean when you shut down from windows, it doesn't turn off?

i was in a hurry when i wrote that originally.

this is what happens:

i plug in the power cord to the PSU.
my computer turns on by itself.
my power button switch is not even connected to the motherboard.

i managed to load windows and the system has been on for more than 24 hours.
i can't help but think that it's some stupid jumper or something that i've missed, but i have no idea what it is and it's driving me insane!

i'm thinking of RMAing the board.
i'd rather not though, if someone could help out.

It's normal that after providing the PSU with power (by either plugging in the power cord or setting the switch to 1, if it has a switch), the motherboard automatically starts. It does to mine as well (I think it's most likely a BIOS setting, but I don't really care about this: you don't plug in/out the power cord everyday, do you?).

The board also shuts down just fine for me. I'm guessing you probably misplaced some connectors to these coloured pins at the bottom right hand of the motherboard. OR... it could be a BIOS setting. Try enabling ACPI 2.0 Support. In fact, have all ACPI related features enabled. That should do the trick, but still... I find it weird that such a thing happens. I mean, even on default settings, my board shuts down just fine. I'm pretty sure it's something else.

Oh yeah, just remembered something... You might have the power-on [device] options enabled. Try disabling all of them. Check your motherboard manual to find the jumpers that are also related to these power-on features, such as power-on PS/2 keyboard, etc.

i dunno.
i don't think the computer should start when i put my plug into the PSU if the computer is off.
sure, the light on the mobo might go on, but not the whole computer.

anyway, i think i discovered the problem.
for one, my computer started to smoke.
i got really freaked out thinking my PSU was to blame, but it ended up being that the connectors to the power switch, reset switch, etc. got fried.

now my power doesn't turn on by itself, but to turn on the computer, (since i don't have a power switch anymore) i have to use a screwdriver and touch the power switch pins on the board.

i'll get a new case tomorrow.

but i think the mobo just fried my case's wires.
i don't think asus will pay for my new case....
