Help! Baldur's Gate Installation Problem!

I recently purchased the combo box that has Baldur's Gate and the expansion pack. I was in the process of installing it. The first disc went fine, and it got up to 79% installed. Then it asked for disc 2. I put it in, then it went up to 80% and my CDR drive started chugging like it could not read the disc. I have had this happen with one or two other games, so I figured I would quit and use the CD-ROM drive to install it.

Well, it seems to think I have installed it, as when I put the disc in it asks if I want to uninstall. I told it yes, and it said the Uninstall Shield file was corrupt, and it would not continue. So I grabbed the entire Black Isle folder and dumped it in the Recycle Bin and tried again, except now it simply says the file does not exist.

What do I do to get back to the installation phase? I need to find out if the second disc even works!

Steve,
What OS are you running? If you are using Win 98, you can use TweakUI to fix the problem. Use TUI's Add/Remove programs. I don't think WinXP's TUI has that feature.

Good luck, BG is a very fun game.

You may want to try the new PowerToys from MS. I haven't played with these, but it may be worth a shot.

PowerToys!

Make sure you delete all your temp files.

I've had numerous problems with installing applications/games that died in the middle and when I tried to install it again, the crap files in the temp folder messed it up. Deleting those solved the problem for me.

I'm getting real sick of companies using crap like install shield that keeps trying to change its encryption/packing methods and ends up being buggy.

How do I do that without deleting something vital? Is there an option somewhere like there is for deleting temporary internet files?

subs can go.

I had the same problem too. I ordered BG from pcliquidators, but half the discs were scratched bad and the first one wouldn't install, but I wound up with your problem. They fed'exed me a second copy the next day.

Hey--

If you're like a lot of people, your cd-rom can't spin some of the bgate discs properly because of the paint on top of the discs. Put tape around the circle where the disc is turned--it'll help the cdrom spin the disc properly for reading. Had to do this on 2 out of 3 computers because of this exact same problem. Later

Thanks for all the tips, everyone. Hopefully I will be able to get it working this weekend with all the fixes to try.

Delete all the files in there, but not the directory!

Deleted the stuff in there, but no dice. Did a search for Temp, and this directory looked promising, but I did not want to start deleting stuff without knowing for sure what it was.

The files in the directory are safe to delete.
