HELP! Best Software to Convert mp4 files to DVD

Does anyone know what is the best software to convert mp4 or avi files to DVD5 that can play in DVD Player? Free or commercial is OK (as long as it costs <$100). Apps that can support multicore CPU is preferable as I'm using a dual Xeon PC to for video transcoding.

I'm currently using Nero Video 2015 for this but it doesn't have many fine tuning options; I use HandBrake to convert DVD to mp4.

Check out ConvertxtoDVD ... not free, but does have a trial and it is not very expensive. If you like it, I would say opt for the Lifetime License as you can update it or upgrade it as new releases come out without any additional cost.

Thanks. I tried ConvertXtoDVD in the past. I liked it and it seemed to do a fine job but the DVD it created wouldn't play in the car OEM DVD. I'll try again.

When you do a DVD like that, you need to be aware of certain things:

1): Some systems only like DVD-R Media .. others only like DVD+R Media
Still others will accept both types and play them.

2): You may have to set a certain order in the way the files are put on DVD

3): The DVD may need to be finalized before certain DVD Players will see it.

4): You may need to remove the DVD Region Code or some players will not work.

AVStoDVD is the best free program for this and is generally regarded as providing slightly better quality output compared to ConverXtoDVD if you use the HC encoder that is included with the program. http://www.videohelp.com/software/AVStoDVD

If you want to use it to burn directly to a DVD, rather than output to the hard drive first, you'll also need ImgBurn installed.

Compatibility with your car DVD player will probably depend on the media used and the burn speed. I'd suggest Verbatim AZO -R discs, and burning at a moderate speed, say 8x for a full sized burner and 4x with a slim type drive like you might see in a laptop.

I use RiData Magic Silver DVD-R and burn with either ImageBurn or Nero Burning ROM.

I've tried Nero 2015 & DVDFlick to convert a kid's animation movie from mp4 720p to DVD folder VIDEO_TS and burned it later with Nero Burning ROM DVD-Video.

-Nero Video:
Could customize the disc menu including front and title name.
Could choose 2nd pass encoding VBR and customize the video bit rate but the output folder size was 3.62GB which resulted a low quality and waste of disc space.
Speed: seemed to be faster (35min for 1h28m mp4 video), CPU load ~20% with load on 12 threads out of 24 threads of the dual 6-core Xeon (in Windows 7 Task Manager).

DVDFlick:
There wasn't many options for the disc menu and encoding option.
Seemed to be slow, only 1 thread was running with ~5% load, I didn't stay to see how long it took to finish. But the output VIDEO_TS folder size was 4.32GB, the animation looked great on the tiny overhead display of the Sienna.

Overall: I like the final size of DVDFlick but not the processing power.

I'll try ConvertXtoDVD and AVStoDVD later this week.
I'd converted a whole bunch of DVDs to mp4 before they got badly scratched and destroyed by the kid. Now it takes me a lot of time to convert them back to DVD until I can buy a new van that can play mp4

FreeMake Video Converter is fast & easy. If you have Nvidia video card, under options, Acceleration tab, select Use Cuda. Select videos you want, click convert to DVD. insert blank media, or select create iso, convert. It's free & it's fast.

This. I've been using it for years now and it has never failed to do a great job.
