Help building a gaming PC for my wife

Hello All,

I am currently considering building a gaming pc for my wife. She recently got into gaming (no thanks to me of course). She wants something that she will not have to upgrade for "a long time". I told her building a future proof computer will cost a pretty penny, but she still wants one.

BUT, as soon as i try to build a "future proof" computer (5930k, midrange mobo, ddr4 RAM) She doesn't want to spend that much LOL. She is highly fond of my main computer (listed below) and wants a good gaming computer. I told her 4790k will be good for awhile still, and probably "future proof" enough for her. I plan on putting a spare r9 290 in it once completed.

So in conclusion: we need, a CPU, motherboard, RAM, SSD, and case. The rest of the parts I have (PSU, GPU and random other parts) Any recommendations??

What kind of games is she playing?

Ask her to come up with an absolute budget she wants to spend... having a defined budget will allow us to come up with correct parts for the build...

She does want a 1tb SSD. I was looking at the 850 EVO on amazon for 349.99. So here is an updated cart:

I Still need a case, and the above parts already put me over $1200. She did request a case with a clear window. I haven't even started looking at those yet. Probably don't want to spend too much on it; maybe $100 give or take $20.

Just to be clear, she is still up in the air about this, and I really want her to get into gaming. I'm not pushing her that much because I want her to want this for herself. But when she sees 1200 dollar price tags on hardware alone she gets kind of uneasy. I also talked about going the 4790k route. She seems pretty set on getting DDR4. Simply because she doesnt want to upgrade any sooner than she has to. I have tried to tell her that performance wise there really isn't that much difference between ddr3 and 4. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Leading edge tech costs money. The cost/performance balance is struck with the 46-4790/DDR3 setup, and I don't really think she would notice much difference in the next 2 years, perhaps, depending on what she is playing now, and where new games go. A $1K budget is a reasonable one given the reuse parts and the requirements (1TB SSD, etc) with a 4790 (and, even then, I think an i5 would suffice.)
