HELP!! Built a Computer and...

I just finished building a computer for the in-laws. I push the power button, and it powers up for half a second and then the power shuts off. I have swapped out power supplies and I get the same results. So I think I have ruled out a power supply problem. What else could it be? Any help would be appreciated. My mother-in-law is here and I am looking kind of bad. Any ideas?

Heat is a first guess. Double check HS/HSF is on correctly and themal compound is on properly. Then reseat RAM, emove all other cards except video and try again. Double check all connections too.

leave the case open and watch every fan spool up. Even get your hand in there to feel for air moving. See that the HSF is moving and reseat the CPU if everything looks good. Check your memory too.

The motherboard is an ABIT b7g. So there are no cards (everything is onboard. I will try the CPU. Let you know what happens.

Try pulling the power plug for a few seconds and plug it back in. Does it give that little power flash only once then not do it again? I've had a problem that sounded like that and it was just the power plug for the floppy was not on right.

make sure the power for the CPU fan is in the right plug. Some motheboards shut down automatically if it does not detect a CPU fan... you could have the CPU fan plugged into the sysfan socket instead of the CPU fan socket.

try it outside the case...could be the mobo shorting against the case.
